Controversy Around Money in the Bank
The entire night on Smackdown was focused on what Daniel Bryan would do about James Ellsworth and the Money in the Bank briefcase that he helped Carmella win. From the beginning of the night, where Carmella cut a great heel promo to hearing the opinions of every other woman, Daniel Bryan came to the ring towards the end of the show to make the announcement. After the women complained and argued, Daniel Bryan (after a nice threat to Ellsworth) took the briefcase away and said that all five women will be competing in a Money in the Bank Ladder match next week. History will be made again for the women of team blue and I am not sure what to make of it.
I think Carmella wins it again and this all becomes a moot point. Yes, it was “controversial” for many, but it has been entertaining and meaningful for a female wrestler that spoke so much truth to kick off the show. Everything she said was on point, made sense and proved that she should still hold the briefcase. I get why they want to strip it from her, but it isn’t a logical reason. Whatever they decide to do, they certainly got people talking and that is very critical these days. I am interested to see the ratings for this show, as they put a lot of time and stock into this one storyline to carry them throughout the night. They kept my attention all night and even made me more interested to see this match again. To make it more successful, give it more than 13 minutes next week.
Big E defeated Jimmy Uso
Continuing their feud on Smackdown Live, Big E took on Jimmy Uso in a hard-hitting contest. Jimmy attempted to make his exit mid-match and get counted out, similar to what we saw on Sunday. Kofi Kingston leaped off the steps to wipe out Jey Uso, while Xavier stopped Jimmy from leaving the area. Jimmy gets into the ring and gets run over by Big E, right before hitting the Big Ending and The New Day celebrates a victory.
With this win, we are certain to see them compete at Battleground, but I would not be surprised if The Hype Bros get a shot at them too. Next week, they can beat The Uso’s and get an opportunity at the Smackdown Live Tag Team Championships. We know how good New Day vs. Uso’s are, but Smackdown Live has other young and hungry tag teams that could fit in easily in storylines to make Jimmy and Jey have to overcome more than one obstacle. It worked a few years ago for The New Day, defeating teams like Gallows/Anderson, Enzo/Cass and The Vaudevillians. I would be in favor of giving more chances to more teams and really filling out the division with more compelling and entertaining bits. Look no further than The Fashion Police and The Hype Bros, right?
