Tag Division Takes Over Smackdown Live
Kicking off Smackdown Live was The New Day, with a brass band around them in New Orleans. They would be interrupted by The Uso’s and The Fashion Police. Even The Colons got involved, where it set up back and forth banter before an 8 man tag team match took place. The match itself was really smooth and effective, giving The New Day a slower and methodical way in the ring. The Fashion Police, specifically Tyler Breeze, hit some innovative moves on The Colons, while Xavier Woods hit a foot stomp from the top rope to pick up the win for the faces. This took up the first 30 minutes of Smackdown Live.
30 minutes of successful television here. It did not need to be a five star match. It did not need to do more than what it did, which was giving us some action in the ring and entertainment on the mic. Breezango should just switch their name to the Fashion Police, by the way. They were in a strong spot tonight with The New Day and The Colons taking the loss was the most logical thing here. They are the lowest of the tag teams and this match was something that I thought came off better than expected. It was given time and was enjoyable. Again, the focus needs to be about the Tag Team Championship match at Money in the Bank and it was. New Day and The Uso’s have had plenty of great matches, so I expect the same on Sunday.
Naomi defeated Tamina
The one woman who I think has ZERO shot at winning Money in the Bank was forced to face the champion tonight on Smackdown Live for the sole purpose to lose. Naomi hit a few nice moves after Tamina tried to overpower her. The champion picked up the win, but the story was Lana attacking. Lana hit a very nice move in the ring to take out the champion and then pose with the title.
The women’s contest was not great, but seeing Lana hit that one move was just what we needed. The doubt is strongly there with Lana, but I am optimistic that she will surprise everyone at Money in the Bank. I would love to see her win the title and shock the world. This would be more surprising that Jinder Mahal as champion, right? Hell, who would think Smackdown Live would be “led” by Mahal and Lana?
