The New Tag Team Champions
After a great response from the crowd, DIY comes out and talks about finally becoming the NXT Tag Team Champions. They are interrupted by The Authors of Pain. Paul Ellering talks about being undefeated and the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. They want their shot at the titles, but The Revival make their way down the ramp. They talk about getting their rematch and wanting it now. AoP come down to the ring and push The Revival to the mat, having them retreat and Ellering says that the Authors of Pain are going to become the next NXT Tag Team Champions.
I do think that this was a really solid way to start off NXT. The Revival will get their rematch, but I doubt they win the titles once again. The Authors of Pain have drastically improved over the past few months, but have never really aimed to become champions. This brought their name and look to the forefront and finally putting everyone else on notice. When you have three drastically different teams, it might become tricky to book a feud, but this was really smart to have all three involved and reminding everyone who the champions are. I like all three teams and finally NXT has options.
Sanity defeated No Way Jose and Rich Swann
A nice tag team match featuring Alexander Wolfe and Eric Young facing off against two very charismatic men. The pace was fast, with the faces getting an early advantage on the heels. Swann surprises Young with a dropkick and then tries to get the hot tag. Sanity continues to beat down the Cruiserweight Champion, but Rich Swann finally makes the tag to No Way Jose. He hits a TKO on Eric Young and clears the ring with some clotheslines. Swann hits a corkscrew senton, which clears Wolfe on the outside. Wolfe gets up and then throws Swann into the steps. After a slight distraction, Eric Young hits the wheelbarrow neck breaker to pick up the victory.
WWE NXT gave us a solid tag team match, continuing the push of Sanity. A team like Sanity needs to be more dominant, as tonight they seemed to struggle to constantly stay on top of their opponent. I like Jose and Swann, but we know what their role on NXT is. Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe have a great balance of technicality and strength, with one excelling in one avenue and the other picking up the slack. Although there are three tag teams ahead of them, Sanity is on a fast track to something important heading into Orlando in April.
