Rusev Kicks off Raw
Rusev and Lana call out Roman Reigns, but Mick Foley comes out to address the champion. He says that they have a show to run and tells him to go to the back. Rusev says he needs his respect and will not leave. He says Foley sucks and he says to bring Stephanie McMahon to come to the ring. She says his behavior is unacceptable and says he should show respect to Foley. Rusev flips out and the Stephanie says she stands by Mick Foley. Roman comes out to the ring and he says he is sorry, so this can end. He begins to bash them and says they are going to make ugly babies. Rusev says people are stupid that support him. They book a match for later tonight between the two, with Lana’s honor on the line…
Natural heat from a natural heel. Rusev yelling and complaining only helps Roman Reigns get some cheers from the crowd and I really enjoyed the intensity. The stipulation of their match tonight does not really do a thing for the fans, but I guess we can get a taste of what to expect on Sunday. Something small, but I really wish Roman did not shave his face. He looked more edgy, more tough and more intense. A few jabs I am fine with, but do not fall into what got him booed months ago.
Cesaro and Sheamus Continue Their Feud
A really good match between Sami Zayn and Sheamus take place with Sheamus really taking control of the offense. Sami takes advantage of a distraction and hits his Helluva Kick for the win.
I wondered what happened to Sami Zayn last week, especially with so much down time in the show. Tonight was a nice win, but what is his plan moving forward? Cesaro and Sheamus are a nice feud, but what else can they really do? They are a great pairing for the SummerSlam pre-show, but after will tell us all we need to know. Both men are really good talents, but they are in neutral right now. Sami, on the other hand, is completely lost.
The New Day defeated The Dudley Boyz
Xavier Woods takes the early beating, quick tags from the Dudley Boyz. Bubba hits some punches, but Woods fires back. Woods ducks and Devon clotheslines his teammate. Kofi gets into the ring and hits a crossbody. He hits Trouble in Paradise.
Sloppy and under two minutes. The best part was Gallows and Anderson continuing their doctor gimmick. They show an egg explode in a microwave, talking more about the disease. They show jars and basically say they need more test subjects. The New Day cuts a promo and says they have the power to overcome and persevere. Why did this not connect with me? Big E was needed and is greatly missed. He brings so much energy and so much charisma that seemed to be missed tonight. Either way, I think Big E makes a return on Sunday, but there needs to be a changing of those championships. I wanted some more physicality, showing the champions as vast underdogs. The size difference and sheer strength should be enough.
