The Undertaker has beaten some of the biggest names in the business, on some of the biggest stages in pro wrestling history. Five Hall of Famers, seven guaranteed future Hall of Famers, giants, monsters, world champions, two guys at once…CM Punk…
Here’s Wrestlezone’s top ten list of WrestleMania “streak” matches that didn’t happen, for one reason or another, that could have otherwise been a reality.
#10 Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan is the biggest name in pro wrestling…ever. Cases can be made for others, during other periods, but nobody was as red hot, making as much money, for as long a period of time as the Hulkster. It’s for that reason that he probably deserves a spot on this list – Hogan vs. Undertaker would make a great WrestleMania main event in several different eras.
The problem is timing. Hogan left WWE in 1994, and neither worked WrestleMania X at Madison Square Garden. At that point the “streak” was three matches long, years before anybody considered it note worthy. Sharing a ring at that point wouldn’t have made any sense, as the company wasn’t exactly ready to place the whole organization on ‘Taker’s shoulders, and a win for Hulk – which seems likely, given that he won all three of those aforementioned WrestleMania shows anyway – would have killed any momentum for the future.
Hogan came back at the turn of the century for two WrestleMania matches, and both were big money matches against The Rock and Vince McMahon. At that point The Undertaker had a legitimate streak, but the Hulkster is well known for having creative control, and I doubt he’d want to take the fall for the Deadman.
