"Game On" at WrestleMania
Two weeks ago WWE executed a perfect "Occupy Raw" segment, turning the fan's angst from Chicago the previous week, and crafting it in their favor. Last week another perfect segment saw Triple H brutally assault Daniel Bryan, handcuffed with his arms behind his back, with an assist from Stephanie McMahon. The angle finally gave The Authority the heel heat they should have had seven months ago. They were more or less forced into this program by the fans, so don't give them too much credit – I guarantee you they would have gone with Randy Orton vs. Batista if they weren't worried about 80,000 people burying WrestleMania, live from New Orleans.
But now we've got another interesting stipulation: the winner of Triple H vs. Daniel Bryan will be placed in the main event match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. As I've been saying on Twitter as of late, WrestleMania is rarely the place for major surprises and shenanigans. That being said, they've already trashed the fan's opinion of SummerSlam, Survivor Series and now, the Royal Rumble, so don't rule out a screwjob just yet.
The safe bet is that Daniel Bryan beats Triple H, and then later hobbles down to the ring to barely win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, leaving the crowd with that magic moment they've wanted for seven months. Batista won at WrestleMania. "He Who Must Not Be Named" won at WrestleMania. John Cena won at WrestleMania. The Ultimate Warrior won at WrestleMania. Shawn Michaels won at WrestleMania. When the title is on the line, the win goes to the underdog at WrestleMania almost every single time.
The only other situation I could conceive of is Hunter and Bryan fighting to some sort of no contest, and both guys being added to the main event. It's not likely, but how big would the pop be if Bryan forced Triple H to tap out, winning the title? It would fuel Orton finally having enough of The Authority. It would fuel Batista's frustration that he'd been screwed over since returning – and rightfully so.
