This past week’s edition of Monday Night RAW was highlighted by 3 segments. They were Heyman/HHH, Big Johnny/Big Show and Big Johnny/Cena.
The first segment between Paul Heyman and HHH opened the show and was by far the most enthralling part of this week’s RAW. Paul Heyman has a natural ability to make everything that comes out of his mouth feel real. He draws you in to the TV set and sets out his promo with perfect timing. This week it was highlighted by Triple H’s perfect silent response to Heyman. Pictures paint a thousand words as the anger boiled up in HHH’s facial expressions.
This rivalry between Brock and HHH is expected to happen in June and to be honest, the sooner we get it the better. The segment didn’t advance much in the story telling but it did just enough to make you wonder what will happen the following week.
The only downside to this is the fact that it had nothing to do with Over The Limit. To be fair, not much seems to be happening with Over The Limit. I’m surprised that after having two solid PPVs brimming with matches we wanted to see we are left with a one match show.
CM Punk and Daniel Bryan have a lot resting on their shoulders with this PPV as the Laurinaitis and Cena match still isn’t drawing me in.
Then we had Big Show being fired by John Laurinaitis. The whole segment felt stupid. Why didn’t Big Show believe in himself and say that he is a monster and ANY wrestling company would want him. Why didn’t he just smash Johnny in the face? Why didn’t he intimidate Johnny like Brock Lesnar did weeks before? Instead he dropped to his knees and leaked more water than a busted kid’s swimming pool.
Everyone gives Big Show a hard time. Personally he doesn’t really do much for me but I respect that the guy is incredibly talented for his size. The guy had some great runs when he was pushed as a monster. I’ll touch on this again shortly.
Then we get to the main event segment which included a crazy John Cena. He was full of beans! Seriously, I thought the guy was on something. He was comical as hell and Big Johnny was struggling to keep his face straight. All good stuff except, IT’S A GO HOME SHOW. Now yes, the segment got more serious towards its conclusion but it went on for far too long and felt like the match was weeks away. A few weeks back we had Cena looking beaten and beatable with after a vicious attack. That segment would have been better suited for a go home show than this week’s efforts. This week they were joking and clowning around in the ring and Cena looked like his arm was given a massage by Superman as he showed no signs of injury.
Even with the added stipulation it adds no interest. If anything, it just means that Big Johnny has to pick up the win. This brings me back to Big Show. Maybe he cost Cena the match, align himself with Laurinaitis and Johnny just says he gave him the motivation he needed to become a monster again? Maybe he will cost Johnny the match or maybe even Brock will jump over the railings. Who knows but at this moment in time, the card for Over The Limit looks weak.
Still, we have been told to never judge a book by its cover and some nice surprises might take place.
