The Widow’s Peak: New Year’s Revolution Nears!

This Sunday marks the first WWE PPV of the new year and you wouldn’t know it by the past two Raw’s, but there are other matches on the card as well. The Elimination Chamber is New Year’s Revolution’s premier match as you could tell by the amount of time the WWE has spent on gearing us up for it. The vacant World Heavyweight Championship, all in thanks to Vince McMahon’s refusal to name a new champion, is the prize that is on the line. With Shawn Michaels as the Special Guest Referee, each six men have something against him, but will someone like Triple H or Edge, let their hatred for him get the better of them?



After getting the main event slot on Raw a few weeks ago, the Women’s Championship is I guess I should say the second big match up. However, it has been overshadowed by two things: The Elimination Chamber and the long waited (rolling of eyes happening as I write that) match between Kane and Gene Snitksy. Then you have what used to be the stepping stone to the Heavyweight championship, the Intercontinental championship on the line as well. Shelton Benjamin, after beating Chris Jericho for the title, hasn’t done much with the belt, but let’s hope Maven will try to give Shelton a run for his money.



The tag titles, which have been run into the ground into nothing, are also on the line. Eugene and William Regal are the unlikely partners up against the illogical choice of Christian and Tyson Tomko. After Monday night’s debate, Jerry “The King” Lawler will face off against the newcomer, Muhammad Hassan. If he is as good in the ring as he is on the mic, this match could turn him into a Superstar.



In this edition of the Widow’s Peak, I’ll be looking at New Year’s Revolution, give my thoughts and predictions of each match. For the first PPV of the new year, this will determine how the year of 2005 goes for the WWE and their Superstars.

Rachel’s Thoughts: This match was thrown together on Raw this week, when Christian defeated Eugene and Regal and Tomko got involved. I mean what happened to La Resistance and the mismatched team of Rhyno and Tajiri? Of course, what would really make the match is Christian coming out in his “Cpt. Charisma” outfit! Christian is one of the WWE’s most well rounded performers, but he hasn’t had that one feud or match to bring him up. This will not be that match.

Rachel’s Thoughts: After having the main event slot on Raw, these two women haven’t really been in contact with each other much. Trish was on Heat, fighting Victoria and this week doing the same, until Trish decided she needed to get something off her chest to the red headed wife of Kane. Thus started a chain reaction that lead into…

Rachel’s Thoughts: I’m hoping to hear something out of Matt Hardy on Sunday and if I don’t, I’ll be upset. He has a stake in this match as well, although not being part of it, so let’s hope the WWE takes the unexpected route. I’m hoping that Kane and Snitsky will be in on the plot to ruin Lita and it hasn’t been that hard. Since sleeping with Kane and losing his baby, she is an easy target for the likes of her fellow divas and the so-called “Baby Killer”.

Rachel’s Thoughts: I can’t say that Maven has impressed me all that much since his Tough Enough win nearly fours years ago. I guess the WWE is going to see which gets a better reaction: Shelton vs. Maven or Shelton vs. Christian. Shelton hasn’t done much with the belt in recent weeks, with the exception of battling “Captain Charisma”, a man who looked suspiciously like Christian! We’ll have to see what these two young bloods have up their sleeves, or up their…well, you get the picture.

Rachel’s Thoughts: The big debate on Raw has come and gone and let’s say that it isn’t a good to have a thing like this fall on your birthday, ask Jim Ross, he’ll tell you. Anyway, Good Ole’ J.R. got his ass handed to him and the King defended the Oklahoma Sooner fan’s honor (how sweet!). With Hassan’s manager, surely at ringside and a possible J.R. quick recovery, this could be a sleeper match.

Rachel’s Thoughts: This match has been hyped up so much that I hope that it doesn’t disappoint. There have only been two Elimination Chamber matches the last that ended with Goldberg winning the title. All six men and Shawn Michaels have some sort of a connection with each other, which could spell doom for one of them. Having Triple H, complaining about not having the belt is bad, but him complementing himself on winning it, is even worse. Let’s hope there is a new champion, which could revitalize the WWE.

I usually second guess myself and end up changing my mind before the PPV, but I’m going to try to stay on with my predictions. I know that the WWE wants a Triple H vs. Randy Orton match for the title at WM 21, but I don’t think that is the best route to go. By the looks of it, Batista is getting over with the crowd well and it’s good that the WWE is moving slowly with his face turn. It also helps that he is upstaging Triple H, something that I’m actually excited about, that gets the fans behind him. They know it’s subtle things that Batista does, without saying a word, he conveys more than Triple H.



Oh, my sweet Bertha…wait! Oh my sweet AND dear Christian! What are we going to do with you? Give you the IC title? Check. Give you the tag titles? Done it! The chance to be the only man in WWE history to win tag titles with four different partners? It’s possible like Cinderella says! Maven, you might want to get a bit of the charisma back that you showed in that “promo” on Tough Enough to Undertaker. Victoria and Molly, I haven’t forgotten you even if management has. As the two divas that have the better wrestling ability, let’s hope Molly can go into a feud with Trish (their feud about Molly’s “big butt” WAS entertaining) and Victoria (going back to her psycho days is her best bet) into a feud with Lita (who has some ‘splaining to do to Matt Hardy).



If Triple H walks away with the title he was stripped of, I’ll scream then do something crazy! WWE management takes Stephanie McMahon and Triple H too seriously, how about they do something the fans want them to do. How crazy would that be, right?
