5 Best Matches At AEW Revolution

The fifth annual AEW Revolution PPV event goes down this Sunday. The show boasts a stacked card of nine matches. Fans can expect an updated card announcement during Rampage or Collision this week.

Revolution has always been one of the more consistent AEW events when it comes to in-ring booking. The show remains synonymous with breakthrough performances and five-star classics.

With that in mind, let’s explore the five best matches at AEW Revolution.

Eddie Kingston vs. Chris Jericho (AEW Revolution 2022)

This match may be up there with the best opening matches in AEW PPV history. Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho tore the house down with their in-ring storytelling at AEW Revolution. The Mad King took out The Wizard with a dragon suplex to kick things off.

The action only got better with every passing minute. The build to the finish was methodical yet well-paced. Kingston getting the win via submission was the right decision. Both men would find themselves in a brutal rivalry in the following months.

Adam Page vs. Jon Moxley (Texas Death Match – Revolution 2023)

There’s no better way to let two men with an affinity for violence let loose than Texas Death. Adam Page and Jon Moxley had spent months trying to kill each other. The feud kicked off after a lariat from Mox gave the Hangman a concussion on the October 18, 2022, episode of Dynamite.

AEW was quick to capitalize on the real-life injury. Both men met each other on weekly television in 2023 before the Texas Death outing at AEW Revolution 2023. This was a brutal, hard-hitting affair. The use of weapons was really well done.

Page’s submission victory over Mox made for a satisfying outcome.

MJF vs. CM Punk (Dog Collar Match – AEW Revolution 2022)

I’m of the opinion AEW has yet to top their MJF versus CM Punk feud from 2022. The whole storyline was so simple yet so effective in its execution. It didn’t involve a title. Tony Khan knew he could trust Max and Punk with a live mic.

The result was one of the greatest promo segments in company history. The brilliant verbal exchange was followed by one of the greatest matches on Dynamite in 2022. Even though Max got the better of Punk in their first outing, the Salt of the Earth failed to best the Straight Edge Superstar at AEW Revolution 2022.

From the brutal in-ring action between MJF and CM Punk to Wardlow’s spectacular face turn, the Dog Collar Match was everything fans had expected from the pair.

MJF vs. Bryan Danielson (AEW World Title 60-minute Iron Man Match – Revolution 2023)

MJF is an incredible storyteller between the ropes, and Bryan Danielson is still one of the very best in the world. This was my takeaway from the AEW Revolution 2023 main event upon initial viewing. The respect I have for these incredible performers only gets higher with every rewind of the match.

MJF versus Bryan Danielson wasn’t just about the richest prize in AEW. It was about tenacity, resilience, determination, and survival. Both men wanted to prove they were the best wrestler in the world, but only one could walk away with the title—both literally and figuratively. Max has since come forward with an admirable confession as it pertains to his war against the Dragon.

Kenny Omega & Hangman Page vs. The Young Bucks (Tag Team Title Match – AEW Revolution 2020)

The Elite civil war was arguably the biggest AEW storyline in 2020. Tension had been on the rise between members of the faction in the build to Revolution 2020. Kenny Omega and Hangman Page entered the show as the reigning and defending tag team champions.

Their opponents were none other than Matt and Nick Jackson. Omega had been on the verge of a heel turn. Fans couldn’t tell if the Cleaner’s true allegiance lied with Hangman or the Bucks. Matt and Nick Jackson played the perfect heel foil to the babyface champions.

Adam Page was superb in his role as the no-nonsense butt kicker. The in-ring action was simply superb with all four men showcasing a variety of moves that kept the crowd on their feet. Omega’s interaction with the Bucks post-match even though he was partners with Page added to the drama.
