AEW Dynamite continued to excel when it came to the in-ring aspect in 2020. Though the emergence of the pandemic forced the promotion to close its doors to the fans, it didn’t stop AEW from producing quality matches.
Fans got to witness Kenny Omega’s epic 30-minute Iron Man war against PAC. They also saw The Young Bucks and FTR tore the house down. All of these PPV-quality matches aired for free. With that being said, let’s take a look at the best AEW Dynamite matches of 2020.
Serena Deeb vs. Thunder Rosa (NWA Women’s Title Match – November 18)
Serena Deeb versus Thunder Rosa was, without a doubt, one of the best women’s matches in 2020. The pair squared off for Deeb’s NWA Women’s Championship in a thrilling contest on AEW Dynamite.
This wasn’t a spotfest, but a wrestling match between two veterans of this business. The bout also served to lay the groundwork for the epic feud between Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker.
FTR & Young Bucks vs. Lucha Bros, The Butcher & The Blade (AEW Fyter Fest ’20)
The Revival made their highly anticipated AEW Dynamite debut as FTR on May 27, 2020. The pair soon found themselves in an unprecedented alliance against The Lucha Bros. and The Butcher and The Blade.
The eight-man tag team match went down at Dynamite: Fyter Fest. Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson worked extremely well together. All four teams packed so much action into this 16-minute outing.
Cody Rhodes vs. Wardlow (Steel Cage Match – AEW Dynamite, February 19)
Cody Rhodes was betrayed by MJF in one of the most shocking turn of events in AEW history. The American Nightmare spent the next few weeks embroiled in a series of embarrassing and torturous situations. Rhodes wanted a match against Max at Revolution, but needed to get through Wardlow first.
The pair met in AEW’s first-ever Steel Cage Match two weeks before Revolution. The American Nightmare made Wardlow look strong by selling his brutal offense. The highlight of the match came when Rhodes climbed the top of the cage and performed a moonsault – almost breaking his foot in the process.
Best Friends vs. Santana & Ortiz (Parking Lot Fight – September 10)
Satana recently revealed how this epic Parking Lot Fight with The Best Friends came together. Santana and Ortiz were involved in a heated feud with Best Friends (Chuckie T and Trent) during the pandemic.
The two teams decided to settle their feud with a brawl inside AEW’s parking lot. Things only got extreme when the four competitors went ballistic with absolutely no regard for their well-being. Windshields were shattered with powerbombs and blood splattered all over the parking lot.
In the end, a timely interference from Orange Cassidy helped Best Friends grab the win over the Proud & Powerful members.
Kenny Omega vs. PAC (30-Minute Iron Man Match – AEW Dynamite, February 26)
Kenny Omega and PAC delivered one of the best opening matches in Dynamite history with this all-out war. Both men tore into each other with everything they had in this 30-minute Iron Man on this episode of AEW Dynamite.
The match featured some incredible spots, including PAC’s incredible shooting star splash from the top rope through the table. From then on, the match went into sudden death overtime and the atmosphere only got better.
