Edge’s 5 Best WWE Feuds

Edge‘s early career in WWE saw him solidify his status as a tag team specialist alongside childhood best friend Christian. The Rated R Superstar turned solo in 2001 before joining Paul Heyman’s SmackDown in 2002, becoming a part of the iconic SmackDown Six.

His biggest push, however, came in 2006 when he successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to win his first WWE Championship. Over the course of his WWE career, Edge feuded with both up-and-comers and aspiring wrestlers.

The Rated R Superstar’s compelling in-ring skills and impeccable mic work made him a household name during the Ruthless Aggression Era. He would continue to be a main eventer until his infamous first retirement in 2011.

With that being said, let’s take a look at Edge’s 5 best feuds in WWE.

Jeff Hardy and Edge went from tag team specialists to PPV main eventers

Jeff Hardy and Edge were two of the biggest names in WWE’s tag team division during the Attitude Era. The pair made history with their iconic yet brutal tables, ladders and chairs matches at iconic PPVs such as WrestleMania, No Mercy, and SummerSlam.

In the wake of Hardy’s career-altering solo run in 2008, the Charismatic Enigma found himself at odds with the Rated R Superstar over the World Heavyweight Championship. The pair put on excellent matches, including the brutal Ladder Match at Extreme Rules 2009.

Matt Hardy & Edge’s feud was extremely personal

Matt Hardy and Edge were bitter enemies on screen, but road buddies behind the scenes during the Attitude Era. But when the Rated R Superstar got cozy with Hardy’s girlfriend Lita, things got extremely personal. The Sensei Of Mattitude went public with his real-life issues with Edge and Lita, forcing WWE to fire him.

However, Vince McMahon saw the potential in a storyline rivalry between the two former friends. Hardy was brought back on television and that led to one of the most vicious brawls in the history of Monday Night RAW. The real-life heat raised its heads in the ugliest of ways as Hardy and Edge traded wins in some solid matches on free TV and PPV.

Mick Foley was extremely giving to the Rated R Superstar

Mick Foley is arguably one of the most giving performers in the history of this business. Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy made stars out of the likes of The Rock, Triple H, and Randy Orton. His feud with Edge put the Rated R Superstar on a higher pedestal.

The pair met in one of the most brutal Hardcore Matches in the history of WWE at WrestleMania 22. The Hardcore Legend and the Rated R Superstar bled buckets. Even Lita got a taste of the action. Edge delivered a career-altering spot when he speared Foley through a burning table to cap off one of the wildest matches of the night and possibly the year.

The Undertaker

Edge and The Undertaker had a series of classic matches between 2007 and 2009. The feud kicked off after the Ultimate Opportunist won his first World Heavyweight title at the expense of the Deadman following a vicious Steel Cage Match on the May 11, 2007, episode of SmackDown.

The win led to a multi-year feud between the former Ministry of Darkness members. Edge was famously asked to end Taker’s legendary streak in the main event of WrestleMania XXIV, but declined out of respect for the veteran. He did, however, beat Taker in their extremely physical TLC match for the world title at One Night Stand 2008.

The feud reached a fitting conclusion inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam. The match may be one of the most underrated Hell in a Cell outings in WWE history. At the August 17th event, The Undertaker defeated his longtime rival. He then sent him crashing through the canvas with a chokeslam, with flames emerging from the point of impact.

John Cena

Edge won his first WWE Championship at the expense of a bloodied and battered Edge at New Year’s Revolution 2006. The win earned him the Ultimate Opportunist moniker from Jim Ross. Throughout the next months, Edge and Cena feuded over the top title on RAW.

They would trade wins at numerous PPVs, including Royal Rumble and SummerSlam. The feud also brought Cena’s father into the mix after Edge barged into his house and slapped him across the face.

The pair delivered a classic Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match for the WWE Championship at Unforgiven 2006, which Cena won. After several on-and-off meetings, they picked up their rivalry in the build to WrestleMania XXV – this time for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Edge would finally dethrone his archrival by beating him in their Last Man Standing Match in the main event of Backlash 2009. The Master Manipulator took the title with him to SmackDown after the win, capping off his iconic rivalry with John Cena in convincing fashion.

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins never got a chance to work with Edge during the 2010s due to the Rated R Superstar’s abrupt retirement. However, the stars aligned, and the pair finally got to work with each other in 2021.

The Monday Night Messiah made things personal with the Rated R Superstar by invading his home. The feud resulted in a series of critically acclaimed singles matches at SummerSlam, SmackDown, and the Hell in a Cell Match at Crown Jewel 2021.

Edge & Randy Orton were part of the ‘The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’

Edge and Randy Orton briefly feuded over the Intercontinental Championship in 2004. They joined forces to counter D-Generation X’s influence two years later on WWE RAW. The pair had memorable segments as Rated RKO, including mocking DX’s entrance on the October 16, 2006, episode of the red brand.

The pair had a short-lived feud in the late 2000s before Edge went into retirement. He came back in 2020, and the first person to welcome him was none other than Randy Orton. However, the Viper showed his intention by delivering an RKO out of nowhere. Orton made it personal by taking out Edge’s wife, Beth Phoenix, with an RKO.

They had their first singles match in years, a Last Man Standing Match at WrestleMania 36 with no crowd. They ran it back with “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” at Backlash 2020. The match lived up to its hype and showcased the incredible psychology and in-ring acumen of the two bona fide competitors.

Edge tore his triceps during the match, but continued to wrestle despite the legitimate injury. He lost to Orton following a vicious punt kick. The Hall of Famer would end the feud in a rubber match with a win on the RAW following Royal Rumble 2021.
