Move Over AEW: Fans Say WWE Has ANOTHER Counterprogramming Problem In Atlanta

Who runs Atlanta on July 13? The girls. Which specific girls, though? WWE fans aren’t quite sure yet.

Ahead of her Women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament win, AEW star Mercedes Moné called herself the “Beyoncé of wrestling” (via Instinct Culture), especially given her extensive contributions to women’s wrestling. Ironically, the actual Beyoncé has now become a topic of discussion within the Internet Wrestling Community, especially in relation to an all-women’s wrestling event. Specifically, this event will be taking place within a five-minute walk of Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and that’s where the latest potential problem lies.

After months of speculation, WWE finally confirmed the date and location of its second-ever all-women’s Evolution premium live event — Sunday, July 13, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. As many fans have pointed out, however, another big non-wrestling event will be running just down the street on the same night — Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour, which is expected to sell out.

Given this predicament, some wrestling fans are now concerned about the live turnout for WWE Evolution, with one calling WWE’s scheduling move “insane.”

Not going lie went to see Beyonce on her 3rd night in NJ/NYC and it was sold out ! WWE scheduling a damn women’s PPV the same day and time is insane!

Alongside the attendance for WWE Evolution, members of the IWC also worry about the effects a potentially low one might have on the WWE women’s division. One described it as a “dangerous game” to play as it could result in a failure for both the Evolution show itself and the women partaking in it. Many agreed with the sentiment.

Others are still aiming to see both WWE and Beyoncé that weekend, depending on ticket prices.

The day before Evolution, WWE will host NXT’s The Great American Bash at Atlanta’s Center Stage Theater. Later in the evening of July 12, WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will also take over State Farm Arena. Between July 10 to July 14, this is the only night that Beyoncé will not be performing at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Still, WWE is not relieved of competition as All Elite Wrestling is running All In, its biggest yearly pay-per-view, on July 12 as well, though from Arlington, Texas.

Last weekend, WWE and AEW went head-to-head with NXT Battleground and Double or Nothing, respectively. AEW CEO Tony Khan has likened their counterprogramming war to the previous one between WWE and Jim Crockett Promotions. In this case, though, Khan plans for his promotion to come out on top.
