Rey Mysterio turning heel — could it actually work?
Mysterio recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. During the interview, Mysterio was asked what it would take for the fans to turn against him or embrace him as a heel. Rey, who has essentially been the ultimate babyface throughout his career, said that he’s not sure his actual personality would make it an easy transition.
“Wow! Ooh! They would really have to push me to the edge. I mean, even my wife says, ‘I’ve never seen you get mad at anyone but me. Why do you not fight… You don’t fight with anyone. But when you want to fight, you fight with me.’ So, I mean, it would be very hard for me to get pushed [successfully as a heel],” Rey Mysterio said.
“I think the only time that I’ve been closest to becoming a heel — and I guess we were just having fun because that’s how we were, is Filthy Animals. That has been the closest. But overall, my personality, my demeanor, is very laid back. So, I think it would be very hard.”
Rey Mysterio on if there is something in his career that deserves more attention
Rey is a highly decorated champion and has been involved in many memorable moments throughout his career. Many moments, like his world title win and Halloween Havoc 1997 still get brought up regularly. Are there any moments or matches that he wants fans to talk about more?
“Not really, I mean, I’ve had, like you said, so many moments, so many matches throughout my career. It’s even hard when they ask me, your best match. I have so many that have really stood out throughout my career,” Rey explained. “Halloween Havoc ’97, becoming World Champion, wrestling my son two years ago, just so many incredible moments.
“I just feel overwhelmed and blessed to have had this longevity and this illustrious career for 34 years and to be able to say that I’m still enjoying it is good enough for me,” Rey added.
