Beth Phoenix Recalls Breaking Her Jaw Shortly After Her WWE In-Ring Debut

WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix made WWE main roster debut on RAW in 2006. However, not long after her debut, she faced Victoria, and she suffered a broken jaw during the match.

In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet on his Insight podcast, Beth Phoenix reflected on the unfortunate injury.

“It’s pretty much worst-case scenario, and I felt my whole world crumble all around me,” Beth Phoenix said. “I go in the ambulance and they did the X-ray, and they’re like, Oh my God, your jaw is shattered, you need surgery. I went to UPMC and Pittsburgh, where this was Monday night on Raw, and they couldn’t get me into surgery until Wednesday afternoon. So I had to sit in a hospital bed for essentially two full days just thinking about how my life is.”

Beth Phoenix Thought She Ruined Everything

Phoenix continued and recalled how she thought she ruined everything with the injury. She noted that she felt like everything had come crashing around her.

“I’ve ruined everything, I’ve sacrificed everything at that time, I really hadn’t had a chance to start making any money,” Beth Phoenix said. “I put my family second, everything my whole life, I had put all my eggs in the basket of wrestling and it blew up right in front of me. This was my moment. I’m standing beside Trish Stratus, I’m working with Mickie James and everything crashed.”

Beth Phoenix also shared that when she was in the hospital, Stephanie McMahon and Howard Finkel called her to check on her health and provide some moral support.

“Two people called me in the hospital that I really, really remember so, so much,” Beth Phoenix said. “One was Stephanie McMahon to check on me and just extend her remorse for what happened and give me a pep talk that you can do this, you can come back from this. And the other was Howard Finkel, and Howard was so sweet.

“[Finkel] recounted how he remembered me coming in as an extra and how this was my dream. He goes, I remember you wanting to do this for the last three years driving all over the place as an extra. He goes, Don’t give up, It feels terrible now [but] don’t give up. In that really dark moment for me, like I am so grateful that I got those two phone calls. Particularly Howard, who it was a very special call.”

Phoenix also stated that Victoria felt bad about the injury, even though it was not her fault.
