Eric Bischoff Highlights Why AEW Was A Better Choice For Will Ospreay

About a week before the AEW Full Gear pay-per-view, the Jacksonville-based promotion’s President and CEO Tony Khan had announced that there would be a blockbuster signing at the pay-per-view. The signing was none other than current IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion, Will Ospreay. WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff shared his thoughts on the heavily hyped Blockbuster signing.

Will Ospreay arrived at the Full Gear pay-per-view, and announced that he is set to be fully involved with the Jacksonville-based promotion next year. He is also looking forward to performing at All In Wembley as an All Elite wrestler.

During an episode of the 83 Weeks podcast, the former WWE Raw General Manager shared his honest thoughts on the signing.

“The choice that he made had a lot to do with what his personal goals were,” Bischoff said. “I’m sure there was a lot of money on the table from both companies. So when you have two companies that want your services, and both of them are offering you a substantial amount of money, then it’s about personal choice and what you want to do with your career.

“My impression, from what I’ve heard and read about Will, is he’s a very independent person,” Bischoff said. “I think AEW is a better choice for someone who really wants to explore their creative processes and be able to do things that the more formal, corporate structure within WWE wouldn’t allow,” Eric Bischoff said. The Aerial Assassin is currently under contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Due to his commitments to the Japanese promotion, Ospreay will not be able to start performing for All Elite Wrestling right away. The current IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion’s contract comes to an end early next year.
