Charlotte Flair follows a superstitious pre-match ritual in WWE that centers around her boots.
Speaking in an interview with Games With Names, Charlotte Flair revealed that lacing her boots is a routine she never skips before a match. “Lacing my boots. They just take forever because they’re like the old-school boots. I’m not willing to part with them, so that’s, like… it takes like 25 minutes. Twenty-five minutes. My assistant the other day was like, ‘Can you just buy some boots that have zippers?’ Like, this is taking forever. Like, he’ll help. Try to. I’m like, ‘No, you can’t help me lace. I have to lace them. No one can lace my boots.’ Boots. And so, it’s just a ritual.”
She views the process as a personal ritual, as the boots mean so much to her that. “Like, my boots are so important to me that instead of buying new boots, when I came back, I had all my old boots bedazzled so they looked a little different. Because I’m so superstitious with them.”
She even mentioned that her superstition even extends to how she laces them, as she always starts with the left foot. “Left foot. Left foot first. Just because right is my dominant, so I feel like left needs to be the tightest.”
Charlotte Flair reveals how she gets into a heel mentality
In the same interview, Charlotte Flair opened up about her heel mentality and the mindset she adopts in the ring. “[My mindset is] just breathing. Just breathing. I just have to be [full of piss and vinegar]. When I try to be nice or I try to be endearing, they, dislike it more. So then they boo louder. I’m like, ‘Well, you know what? I’m not going to tell you I had a bad day. I’m going to make you hate me and just say I’m the greatest, that I didn’t have to work for this.’ Well, being a legacy wrestler and your dad’s Ric Flair, it doesn’t make it easy on you. And I’ve won a lot of matches, titles, had a lot of opportunities.
“That’s the mindset you have to always have being that bad guy. Knowing I’m the greatest. I know my dad and I are gonna need our own wing,” she added.
When asked which character dynamic she enjoys more, babyface or heel, Flair stated that she likes being the bad guy, because “it’s more fun.”
