WWE SmackDown Review: Hits And Misses For March 28

Welcome or welcome back to our weekly WWE SmackDown hits and misses series, where we recap all the good and bad from the show.

Hit – Randy Orton gives Cody Rhodes his flowers

Orton showing respect to his friend Cody was a great way to kick off WWE SmackDown. But first, let’s give a shout-out to the London crowd. They were absolutely electric. Orton teased going after Cody’s title. This writer won’t mind seeing these two duke it out at SummerSlam, assuming Rhodes retains his title against John Cena at WrestleMania. Drew McIntyre’s interruption set up his match with Orton later in the night.

Miss – Women’s tag team match on WWE SmackDown

This writer didn’t like the match, but at least Kayden Carter and Katana Chance finally got some TV time. London loves Chelsea Green. It was nice to see Piper Niven and Alba Fyre pick up the win in tag team action.

Hit – Pretty Deadly in their home country

A great ovation for hometown heroes Elton Prince and Kit Wilson as they took on Street Profits for the Tag Team Titles on WWE SmackDown. Pretty Deadly got some solid offence against the reigning tag team champions. That said, this match should’ve at least gotten 10-12 minutes, considering it took place in Pretty Deadly’s home country.

Miss – LA Knight vs. Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman shouldn’t have been in this match to begin with. Jacob Fatu would’ve made sense given his current run as a monster heel. At least, Fatu showed up to hit a couple of moonsaults on the Monster Among Men. Looking forward to the eventual showdown between Strowman and Fatu.

Hit – Naomi’s promo on WWE SmackDown

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Naomi provided a damn good explanation for why she attacked Jade. All those tears added to the emotion. This writer is looking forward to Jade Cargill versus Naomi, hopefully, at WrestleMania 41.

Miss – Charlotte Flair vs. Michin

Naomi’s attack on Michin wasn’t needed because it somewhat diminished Charlotte’s legitimacy for the match. Given how WWE has built the whole Charlotte versus Tiffany feud so far, Charlotte should’ve defeated Michin all by herself.

Hit – CM Punk gets his WrestleMania main event

Watching Drew McIntyre on the top of the windshield must’ve reminded Punk of something. Speaking of top, Punk is finally getting his rightful place at the top of the WrestleMania card come April. The Straight Edge Superstar will close out WrestleMania with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins on Saturday. Punk got extremely emotional following Heyman’s announcement. The whole segment was really well done, with Rollins playing his part out really well. But, what exactly is the favor Heyman owes Punk?

Honorable Mentions

  • The London crowd got a major match in Randy Orton versus Drew McIntyre. The two have had some wars in the past. A distraction from Owens cost Orton his match. McIntyre wanted to celebrate, but Damian Priest had other plans for the Scottish Terminator.
  • We got the final Rey Fenix hype vignette this week on SmackDown. Penta’s brother and former AEW champion will make his WWE debut next week on the blue brand. It’s interesting because Penta’s on RAW.
