According to a report by Cageside Seats, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay’s team name was most likely changed to The IIconics because someone else already holds a trademark on the name ‘Iconic Duo.’
A filing on the US Patent and Trademark Office‘s website (h/t to 411 Wrestling) does list ‘Iconic Duo’ being registered to Iconic Duo LLC, with the use listed for goods and services including:
Athletic footwear; Bathrobes; Belts; Blazers; Blouses; Boots; Capri pants; Capris; Headwear, namely Caps; Cardigans; Coats; Dresses; Gloves; Gowns; Hats; Headbands; Headbands against sweating; Headbands for clothing; Hooded pullovers; Hooded sweatshirts; Hosiery; Jeans; Jogging outfits; Jogging pants; Jogging suits; Jumpers; Jumpsuits; Leggings; Lingerie; Mittens; Muffs; Nightgowns; Overalls; Pajamas; Parkas; Pullovers; Raincoats; Sandals; Scarves; Shawls; Shirts; Shoes; Shorts; Skirts; Slippers; Socks; Suits; Suspenders; Sweat bands; Sweat pants; Sweat shirts; Sweat suits; Sweaters; Ties, as clothing; Tights; Tops, as clothing; Tuxedos; Underwear; Vests; Visors being headwear; Wrist bands as clothing; Bow ties; Ear muffs; Fur muffs; Leather coats; Sports jackets; and T-shirts
Iconic Duo LLC originally filed for the trademark in June of 2017. The company just filed for opposition this past Tuesday, which is the same day the IIconics debuted on Smackdown, attacking Charlotte Flair in their first appearance on the show.
The IIconics situation is somewhat similar to Ruby Riott’s name change; the spelling of her name was changed after her WWE TV debut due to a trademark issue with a fictional band in an ongoing book series.
