WWE Live Greenville, NC Results (1/21): AJ Styles v Sami Zayn WWE Championship Steel Cage Match, More

Thank you to Mikey Tate (@mikesterthaguyy on Twitter) for the following results and insight from last night’s WWE Live event in Greenville, NC:

“This is a SmackDown Live exclusive event. Daniel Bryan came up on the tron to welcome us and hype us up for the show with a “Yes!” chant. And then the SmackDown Live intro theme played.

 

New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) vs Rusev and Aiden English. Aiden introduced Rusev through song. New Day wins with the midnight hour. A big inflatable Booty OOOs box came up to the right of the stage as Big E was doing his intro before the theme hit.

 

Tye Dillinger vs Mike Bennett. Maria is not with Mike. Tye Dillinger wins via pinball.

 

The Ascension vs The Colons vs The Bludgeon Brothers in a triple threat tag team match. The Bludgeon Brothers get a quick win via pinball. I don’t know why they’re not doing anything with the Colons. They haven’t showed up on TV much at all since they were drafted to SmackDown Live.

 

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Baron Corbin. Very entertaining match. Corbin tried to use a fan’s replica MITB briefcase on Nakamura, but the ref catches him and sets the briefcase down. They traded “COME ON” back and forth. So funny! One of my favorite moments of the day! Nakamura wins via pinfall with the kinshasa.

 

Bobby Roode vs Jinder Mahal for the US Title. Missing a Singh Brother. Jinder cut a promo before the match. The lone singh brother introduced the challenger. He tried to get involved, but Roode wins and retains the title via pinball with the Glorious DDT. This begins the intermission.

 

Back from intermission with some women’s action. Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Naomi vs Carmella, Natalya, and Lana in a 6 women tag team match. Natalya said “no WOOOs” to the fans, but they said “WOOO!” anyway. LOL. It ticked her off. hahahaha. After Natalya’s entrance, Tamina’s music played for some odd reason, but she didn’t show up. Afterwards, Lana’s music played and Lana came out then. Weird. Tamina was not with Lana. Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Naomi won via submission with Charlotte’s figure eight.

 

The Usos vs Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin for the SmackDown Live tag team championships. A lot of UCE, OOOOO chants throughout the match. Pretty awesome! I even tried to start the chant on a few frequent occasions. hahahaha. The Usos win and retain via the splash.

 

Main event of the day was AJ Styles vs Sami Zayn for the WWE Championship in a steel cage. No Kevin Owens. I thought he was supposed to be in the match… I know he was advertised for it… Oh well. Styles escaped the cage and won, retaining his title. Zayn was gloating about him being a real champion during the match. AJ and Sami raced to escape the cage at the end of the match. AJ was on top and Sami was going through the door. AJ slammed the door on Sami, stunning him enough for AJ to escape the cage and retain his title. AJ went around greeting fans and signing autographs on his way to the back.

 

My first live event in the books. I’ve been to 2 televised events and I had yet to go to a live event. This was my chance and the timing was perfect. It was quite unusual to me to have a WWE show during the day, but regardless, I got my money’s worth out of it. I was in section c on the 3rd row. That’s as close to the ring as you can get for $100. Pretty awesome deal! I bought 2 T-shirts when I got in. A Rusev and a Bobby Roode. Wore the Rusev one going in, put my Roode shirt on over it when Roode came out and left it on for the remainder of the show. Haha. A great day today! Very happy!”
