WWE star Bill Goldberg appeared on ESPN’s First Take today and below is a recap of the appearance.
Reacting to Seth Rollins taking a shot at his age on ESPN awhile back, Goldberg had the following to say:
“Hell no I’m not past my prime, Rollins is just trying to get a little rub, which is gonna put him in the hospital. So he better pray to God when I beat Brock [Lesnar] that I don’t have anymore in me because his head will be served on a platter.”
Goldberg went on to say that he is returning to the ring and to WWE now because of his kid. He wants to be able to have the opportunity to be what he once was for his kid, and now he is getting that opportunity. Goldberg added the video game is what started it all, and he said 2k has been the entity to bring guys back to wrestling. He noted one thing lead to another, and once the 2k deal happened that got the ball rolling and he was asked by WWE to return for a match.
Goldberg talked be a “superhero” in pro wrestling, and he said he wants to be that guy because there aren’t enough superheroes left in sports and in pro wrestling.
Goldberg clarified his definition of a superhero in sports and in wrestling as someone kids can look up to. He said if he was the MVP in football and he lost a game, he wouldn’t be the guy hanging his head at the post-game press conference.
When asked why he left wrestling, Goldberg said there were things going on at the time, character wise, and the direction they were going in, that he didn’t like. He said the kids are the pro wrestling audience, and there is a responsibility there for him.
Host Stephen A. Smith said Goldberg is one of his all-time favorites, so he asked Goldberg who he emulated in wrestling growing up. Goldberg says he never wanted to be like anyone else, but he would take pieces of other people’s repertoire and then try to make that his own. He cited Bruiser Brody as an example.
The hosts then plugged Goldberg’s match against Brock Lesnar at WWE Survivor Series to end the segment.
