Tonight’s WWE Off The Top Rope segment on ESPN SportsCenter saw Bill Goldberg as the special guest, and Goldberg started off talking about his history playing professional football. Coach then asked about the comparison of NFL training and WCW Power Plant training, and Goldberg says there’s a lot of tough work in regards to wrestling travel, but 16 weeks of an NFL season is just as grueling.
Goldberg talks about his WCW entrance being organic, then they talk about how he got involved with the WWE 2K17 video game. Goldberg says his relationship with WWE has been a rocky one, but he’s been gone for twelve years and his life has changed a lot since then. He says he wanted to give his son a chance to see him wrestle in real time, and this game allows him to do that. Goldberg mentions Sting, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mike Tyson and some of the other cover athletes and says he is following a lot of big names who have been involved with the game before.
Goldberg looks back on his career and says he is thankful for his career and be a hero to kids, and now this video game allows him to reach more people. Coach asks about his relationship with Vince McMahon, and Goldberg says he hasn’t spoken to Vince since he left wrestling. Goldberg says he’s sure they’ll talk again and he thanks him for an opportunity, then plugs the video game, and Coach leads to a question about his in-ring return.
Goldberg says he’s prepared for this question for 12 years, and he says he is an old man, and he has a lot to think about before he thought he could pull it off. Goldberg says he was a superhero to kids and talks about bullying now, and he wants to still be that guy to kids, but isn’t sure he could still live up to that legacy. Goldberg says who knows what will happen, but right now he is concentrating on the WWE 2K17 game.
Coach asks if Goldberg were return, who would he want to face, and Goldberg says there’s a long list of people, then mentions Brock Lesnar. He says he doesn’t owe Brock a rematch and he already won, but that might be the match, noting Brock is a different athlete now. Goldberg says he’s unsure how long he’d have to train, and he will never say never, but he will do some soul searching and figure out what’s best for his family. He says he doesn’t want to bastardize his legacy, and he’s the guy who could do it if anyone, but he just needs more time for a decision.
Coach jokes about their own storyline encounter, and Goldberg talks about beating Coach up and says he deserved it, then they close the segment out.
