As noted, Alberto Del Rio, aka Alberto El Patron, was scheduled to appear at last night’s AAA PPV and compete in the main event, however according to the promotion El Patron “no-showed”, resulting in AAA issuing a harsh statement criticizing the former WWE Champion for not appearing at the event as scheduled. Below is an excerpt from the statement, which you can read in full at this link.
We regret the lack of commitment of Alberto, as he fails the Mexican public that has supported him throughout his career, to turn it into one of the leading figures of wrestling in Mexico and internationally.
El Patron had been promoting the PPV on social up until four days ago:
First #tvshow with AAA #mexico October 2 this is a you can’t miss show, see you Sunday #sisisi… https://t.co/NeOtz4smHh

Chris Featherstone of SportsKeeda has published a new piece looking at El Patron’s history with AAA, noting the last time he worked for the company he refused to drop their top Championship when he signed a deal to return to WWE back in October of 2015. The article also looks at El Patron’s brief stint in Lucha Underground, before he decided not to return to the promotion, co-owned by AAA, due to creative issues.
WZ also noted last night that Del Rio was spotted in the Orlando area over the weekend, which prompted speculation that he might have no-showed the AAA PPV in order to debut for TNA at Bound for Glory, but that of course did not happen. Featherstone’s new article notes that TNA will be holding a major TV taping this week, and it’s entirely possible El Patron could make an appearance at some point during the tapings, which should carry Impact Wrestling through until the end of the year.
