What Was Billy Corgan’s Big Announcement?
As seen on Impact Wrestling tonight, TNA President Billy Corgan announced the retirement of the King of the Mountain Title in TNA, and in its place is the debuting Impact Wrestling Grand Championship.
The Impact Grand Championship, which will have its own lineage separate from the now defunct King of the Mountain Championship (which underwent three name changes in the six years it existed), will have a few special rules.
An 8-man single elimination tournament was announced featuring the new rules that will apply to this title. Each match will actually be three timed rounds, so basically UFC style, with a team of judges to award the win based on points should the match go all three rounds. The match can be won at anytime via pin fall or decision, and the judge’s decision will only come into play should the match go all three rounds and end without a pin fall or submission.
Drew Galloway and Eli Drake both won opening round matches of the tournament tonight on Impact and have advanced.
Mike Bennett’s Bound for Glory Opponent Set
Also on Impact tonight, TNA Chairman Dixie Carter announced she has re-hired Moose who was previously “fired” on Impact Wrestling, and the returning star will face Mike Bennett at Bound for Glory.
