Gran Metalik
WWE recently applied to trademark ‘Gran Metalik’, which would lead to speculation that the company has signed the current WWE Cruiserweight Classic competitor.
In previous reports from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was said that Metalik (aka Mascara Dorada in Mexico) was expected to sign with WWE to compete in the new Cruiserweight division, but he had previously denied this. It was noted that Metalik was likely denying signing with the company until WWE could announce it themselves.
According to the trademark filing, Gran Metalik would be used for:
Entertainment services, namely wrestling exhibitions and performances by professional wrestlers and entertainers rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; Providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; Providing a website in the field of sports entertainment; Fan club services; Organizing and staging social entertainment events with fan club members; Providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; Online journals, namely blogs, in the fields of sports entertainment
Heath Slater
Despite Randy Orton destroying him in the process, Heath Slater technically did win his match tonight on Smackdown via disqualification.
Orton was disqualified after he ignored the referee’s count in the corner, then beat up Slater and threw him into the barricade and ring steps. Orton hit a hangman’s DDT, then proceeded to mock Summerslam opponent Brock Lesnar by hitting Slater with some German suplexes and performing Lesnar’s taunt, and ended it with a RKO to Slater.
In another funny continuation of the ‘Sign Heath Slater’ angle, Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan informed Slater he technically did win his match to earn a contract. Slater, who was getting checked out by a trainer, was dazed and thought he was actually on RAW and talking to Mick Foley, so Shane took the contract back as Slater was attempting to sign it.
WWE No Mercy
On a related note, Slater made a comment about showing ‘no mercy’ and Bryan and Shane said it sounded like a good name for a brand exclusive PPV name. Although they made it sound like it was not official yet, the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento has confirmed the event, and a working logo was released earlier this week.
