WATCH: 4 Reasons Why the Cody Rhodes WWE Release Could Be A Work

On Sunday 22nd May, 2016, WWE granted the release of long-time performer for the company, Cody Rhodes. The announcement came from more outta nowhere than an RKO disguised in a fake moustache…but is this all just an elaborate lie?

The Cody Rhodes Conspiracy: 4 Reasons Why His WWE Release Could Be A Work

4. PR Management

Rhodes isn’t the only person to have left the WWE as of late. Since April, there have been over ten big talent releases from the company, including the shock firing of Adam Rose – who was controversially arrested for domestic battery and assault. And that’s not even mentioning Ryback walking out of aRaw taping and posting a very critical article on how WWE pays its performers.

WWE are very conscious of public relations, and have proven themselves to be expert managers of PR in the past. And what better way to diffuse the negative attention all these releases have attracted by turning one into a storyline – one which could see Cody return as the triumphant babyface. That way, all other releases and controversy around the company are thrown into doubt. Are they real? Are they storylines, too? Who *is* Byron Saxton?

I don’t know what’s real anymore…

3. Rhodes Scholars Invasion Angle

The storyline releases might not just stop at Cody. Maybe his ex-tag team partner Damien Sandow is in on the con, too.

Much like how 2010’s Nexus invasion angle played off the real life desire of developmental talents to take the top spot, a Future Endeavours faction of Cody and Sandow could be the perfect foil to Triple H, Vince and Stephanie McMahon’s Authority domination.

2. Vince Loves Reality

“That’s a stupid idea, Vince’ll never go for it – it’s way too real and potentially damaging for the company’s image.” you might say. Then may I point you in the direction of this: Vince McMahon’s two children playing out their real-life feud for who gets to inherit his company on television every week on Raw.

Vince loves basing angles on real-life. And why shouldn’t he? Those have been some of WWE’s most successful storylines. The Montreal Screwjob effectively created the heel McMahon character…

…although that was definitely a work, too.
