Ric Flair
Sports Illustrated‘s Richard Deitsch has a new article previewing the upcoming Ric Flair 30 For 30 documentary in production, and it features some quotes from director Rory Karpf.
Karpf says the documentary is nearing completion; it is being edited for either 90 or 120 minutes, and there are still a few more interviews to shoot. The featured interview subjects are Flair, his three living children (including Ashley / aka Charlotte), a number of wrestlers including The Undertaker, Sting and Shawn Michaels, Four Horsemen Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, Jim Ross and Eric Bischoff.
In regards to what wrestling footage will air, Karpf said WWE has been supportive with requests and ESPN has a great relationship with the company.
Karpf said he always wanted to do a wrestling-related documentary for ESPN, and it really happened due to the success of Flair’s interview in his I Hate Christian Laettner documentary, also part of the 30 For 30 series. Karpf says he hopes to give the viewers of the Ric Flair documentary a very “emotional, visceral reaction”, and he hopes wrestling and non-wrestling fans will enjoy it equally.
