Former WWE/TNA star Lisa Marie Varon (aka Victoria / Tara) recently spoke with Total Wrestling’s Greg Clark, discussing her life outside of the wrestling ring, what wrestling promotions and programming she does watch, memories of her Wrestlemania match against Molly Holly and more. Lisa Marie Varon comments on what she’s been up to outside of wrestling:
I’m doing great I’ve been adjusting back into “normal” life. Believe it or not I’ve actually been attending a lot of independent shows, not as a performer but as a fan. My restaurant supports a lot of local wrestling and it’s something I have really embraced, just being a fan again. I actually enjoy the indie shows more than what I watch on TV sometimes.
Varon shares her memories of her Wrestlemania match against Molly Holly
A long time ago they wanted me to shave my head and adopt a GI Jane gimmick, I have a Widows Peak, which is how I named my finisher, and I’ve done a lot of things I‘ve been asked to do but this really bothered me. We live in a male oriented business and to me my hair was a big part of my femininity. So a few years later when the idea of this match came up they asked Molly and she agreed.
We had a long match and I’d beaten Molly, but I didn’t know how to strap her down on the chair and I’d certainly never shaved anyone’s head before, so the barber standing next to the chair is Vince McMahon’s real life barber. I wanted him to help me but he kept stating I had to do it, so I thought at least if I start cutting her hair, then it’s a start. I’m looking for scissors and it turns out due to health and safety there are no scissors, so Molly came back through the curtain with a lot of cuts on her head from my first attempt at shaving a head.
I felt terrible but it was WrestleMania, the biggest show of the year and the crowd wanted someone to get their head shaved, she was such a good sport about it all and the thing is she ended up looking beautiful bald. She had great features for it, although her head was a bit bumpy afterwards thanks to my attempt at hairdressing.
Which current WWE stars have impressed Varon most so far?
You know I’m very lucky I’ve wrestled some of the greatest and I’m still wrestling now so yeah who knows who I may hook up with next.
If you look at the match that Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Sasha Banks had at WrestleMania I think people are taking the women more seriously now. A lot of people said it was their match of the night. Hopefully the days of bra and panties matches are a thing of the past and we can concentrate on the wrestling.
I love Charlotte she would be so much fun to wrestle and I am a huge Sasha Banks fan. She’s got it, the reaction she gets from the crowd is amazing and she is going to go far in this business.
I’d have to say though Paige is a given for me. I’d love to wrestle her. I’m friends with her mom but I think there are a lot of little subtle similarities between us and I’m sure we would have a great match.
