As noted over the weekend, John Cena posted a photo of Paul Newman from the movie “Slapshot” on Instagram, which is the same photo CM Punk uses for his Twitter profile. Despite Cena typically using his Instagram as a joke, the photo of Newman lead to speculation regarding CM Punk’s WWE status.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that there is nothing to the Cena photo, as Punk is currently signed to a multi-year UFC deal, and is not on the best of terms with WWE given the current lawsuit against him by WWE Doctor Chris Amann.
In related news, Joe Rogan recently ripped the idea of CM Punk fighting in UFC in a recent Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. Rogan had the following to say about Punk having his debut MMA fight in a promotion like UFC:
“I don’t know what’s going to happen with that guy. I don’t understand this whole thing,” Rogan said, via Newsweek. “I also think it’s ridiculous for him to fight in the UFC. I think he should fight in a small organization. Take a fight in a small organization, build yourself up. I have always said that’s what should have happened with Brock Lesnar.”
