Some of the WWE roster was expecting Daniel Bryan to make a surprise return at the WWE Royal Rumble in Orlando, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Eventhough Bryan hadn’t been cleared to return, talk of him returning was still going on, possibly attributed to the report of him being cleared by doctors at UCLA along with it just being during the ‘Road to Wrestlemania’. WWE reportedly told Bryan flat out he wouldn’t be cleared and offered him a few non-active jobs within the company, then Vince McMahon later downgraded the situation and said Bryan ‘probably’ wouldn’t be cleared.
In addition to these reports, a tweet from UFC star Benson Henderson also could’ve given life to the rumors, as he said it was good to see Bryan back. Henderson sent the message the day before the Rumble, but the Observer notes that although Bryan and Henderson are familiar with each other, they only met and talked a few times, and Henderson may have seen another website’s erroneous report of Bryan’s return based on the UCLA reports.
