On the hiring of his former co-worker and friend Mauro Ranallo joining the WWE as the lead announcer for Smackdown:
JK: I like it a lot. I know Mauro fairly well. We didn’t work a lot together but we got to chat a lot together, especially about professional wrestling. He is very passionate about professional wrestling. From what I understand they are not going to tweak him too much, which is a good thing. Mauro has this incredible ability where one of the toughest things to do in play-by-play announcing for wrestling is to draw in the audience and make it feel like an authentic, legitimate competition. As opposed to playing the role of an announcer in a sports entertainment atmosphere. Mauro brings that reality aspect to it. It draws you in and allows you to have that suspension of disbelief, if you know what I mean. I think it’s a huge plus.
On how he thinks Smackdown might be changed up when it moves to USA in 2016:
JK: The rumor going around is that it’s going to be altered a little bit as almost a hybrid between what’s presented on RAW on Monday nights and what’s presented on NXT. I like the experiment aspect of it because it caters to two worlds. Obviously NXT caters to a certain audience and RAW is presented to a broader audience of more casual fans. The challenge is going to be to mesh the two in a way that would work so that you keep both audiences interested and engaged. I think it’s going to be a work in progress but I like the idea of trying to mesh those two ideas together. Trying to create something fresh and new.
