Lucha Underground
Shane Shoemaker posted a new blog on CSRWrestling.com talking about the importance of Lucha Underground. The following is a sample:
Lucha Underground, which premiered in October of 2014 on the El Rey Network, just finished its first season. Yes, a wrestling promotion just concluded a season of television. Meaning: it stopped production for a time period, to recharge the creative juices, and give their talent rest like a regular television show. The only problem is—it may be in permanent stopping of production.
Executive producer Eric Van Wagenen said on Steve Austin’s podcast a couple weeks back that there’s still some things to work out (mainly production cost) but that the El Rey Network definitely wants them back—producers just want to maintain the same quality level of production as the first season, which is said to be a staggering $600,000 – $700,000 per episode, which is comparable to a WWE show.
If Lucha Underground can’t find the resources to produce the show they want, no one should fault them for that. Lucha was a show based on knowing their niche and having an identity separate, and perhaps more engaging, than any other pro-wrestling organization today.
