Exclusive Update: More On The Health Of John Cena, When Might He Return?, Was Monday His Greatest Performance?

john cenaWe reported Thursday morning about John Cena having emergency surgery on Tuesday following the broken nose on RAW. Since our report, it’s become public knowledge WWE has been pulling Cena from advertisements in the month of August.

I spoke to sources close to the situation again and the earliest John Cena will be back in the ring is for SummerSlam. Even then he certainly won’t be fully healed, so there is debate on whether him having a match is the smartest thing, especially considering SummerSlam is already going to be a major draw with The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar.

My Friday column in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review talks more about Cena and his performance this past week on RAW. Here’s an excerpt:

“Man, those guys really know how to bleed.”

I don’t doubt somebody was thinking that during John Cena’s match on “Monday Night RAW,” given the cynical nature of some viewers toward professional wrestling or Cena.

That couldn’t be further from accurate, though. The injury — and Cena — are as real as it gets.

Cena broke his nose in the main event on RAW when a flying knee from Seth Rollins connected. It didn’t take long for blood to start streaming. Cena’s nose looked more crooked than actor Owen Wilson’s.

Beyond the dramatic image of a broken nose, the match was superb. I would say it was one of Cena’s best performances.

It was a main event match that was largely filler. The United States title was on the line, but there was little chance of Cena losing that title to the WWE World Heavyweight Champion in an unadvertised match.

But a predictable finish for a match that didn’t have any real importance or progression turned very real, very quickly, and we saw a true heroic performance.

Now, before the Cena haters jump all over me, you have to sit back and look at the match with a clear perspective.

I feel it was Cena’s best performance, but my Chair Shot Reality co-host Josh Isenberg disagrees. He and I debate in this five minute segment of Chair Shot Reality. If you haven’t watched the show in a while, or never have seen it, we encourage you to check it out!
