Russo On Rollins
Vince Russo has a new blog on CSRWrestling.com. He takes aim at Seth Rollins for some comments the WWE World Heavyweight Champion made in a recent interview. Here’s part of the blog:
” In the ring, we move so fast. We take so many more bumps than those guys did, and we do so much more high-risk stuff. We’re athletes now. We’re not cartoon characters.”
– Seth Rollins to Men’s Journal
I can’t even imagine the backlash, or ramifications there would have been if Vince Russo had made that asinine comment as it pertains to wrestlers “then” and wrestlers “now”. What would my punishment have been? How many people in the wrestling industry would I have had heat with? I just found out two days ago that I still have 1999 heat with Jim Duggan, because I put him in a storyline where my character appointed him the WCW janitor in order to tarnish his good name–however, as I just stated—that was aSTORYLINE. In REAL LIFE Seth Rollins just discredited anyone who ever laced up a pair of boots by saying that they weren’t athletes—and that’s OK?!!!
And, it’s simple why Seth’s comment were accepted and not totally ripped to Kingdom Come—because that’s what the Internet Wrestling wants from wrestling today–“high-risk guys” and not “cartoon characters”–, and since they are the smallest minority with the loudest voice controlling the wrestling business these days—they are going to celebrate Seth’s “brave” statement. Meanwhile, if those who were SUPPOSED to be controlling the wrestling business today were actually doing their jobs, they would be going out and hunting down the 5 million casual fans who NO LONGER watch professional wrestling, who would tell them what THEY WANT is VERY different.

LaBar’s WWE Battleground Predictions
With no Chair Shot Reality this weekend, my WWE Battleground predictions were posted in my Friday column for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Here’s some of the predictions:
The WWE Battleground pay-per-view on Sunday is waiting with an amount of excitement I wouldn’t have predicted a few months ago.
On paper, the card has a lot of potential. In the rumor mill, the show could be leading to something big. First, the matches:
King Barrett versus R-Truth on the pre-show
Nothing but head scratching here with these two. I’m going to pick King Barrett because he’s lost so many times already against R-Truth, I refuse to believe it’s going to happen again. I can usually find the entertainment and justification in stuff others can’t, but not here. I predict King Barrett in what I hope is a painless viewing experience.
Prime Time Players defending the Tag Team Championship against The New Day
I don’t see the title changing hands. PTP is connecting with the crowd that has gotten behind them now that WWE seems to have gotten behind them. New Day is still a great heel act for where their spot is on the roster. Bottom line, all parties involved are doing their job, entertaining and getting a reaction. Don’t fix what isn’t broken. I give Titus O’Neil and Darren Young the victory.
John Cena defending the United States Championship against Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens will not win the title. I don’t want to say he won’t technically win the match because I think it’s reasonable to think Cesaro could get involved in this, causing a disqualification. We’ve already seen two pay-per-view matches between Cena and Owens, each getting a victory, which makes a clean finish not as important in this match. WWE has recently inserted Cesaro into this programming. I could see Cena defending the title versus Owens versus Cesaro in front of that New York crowd in August at SummerSlam.
The biggest reason I see Owens not winning the title Sunday is because he’s challenging Finn Balor in a rematch for the NXT title the night before SummerSlam. He’s not going to win the United States title and still be challenging for the NXT belt. But have no fear Owens fans, I think SummerSlam could be his night to get his first main-roster title. Not sure who is the technical winner Sunday, but Cena keeps the title.
