Frank Mir Talks Brock Lesnar, The Rubber Match That Didn’t Happen Between The Two, Was Brock’s WWE Return A Shock?

file_196955_0_frankmirUFC fighter Frank Mir recently talked to Sporting News about his upcoming fight at UFC Fight Night 71 against opponent Todd Duffee.

Mir also spoke about Brock Lesnar’s decision to return to WWE instead of UFC, and how it shocked him that they never had a rubber match (Lesnar/Mir III) with UFC after splitting wins. You can read a few excerpts below:

Frank Mir Talks Brock Lesnar, the potential ‘rubber match’ that didn’t happen:

“It surprised me just because I was really hearing from the UFC and the rumors around from the powers that be that it was all but a signed deal. And so, I was surprised. I really thought that was going to happen and that he was going to happen as long as I won the fight against Bigfoot Silva that would put us in line for each other. I was disappointed. That’s a huge opportunity. You can see fighting people that bring that kind of attention only helps out your career.

Why he would want to face Brock a third time:

“Brock’s a huge name. The guy is still a marketing machine. Why wouldn’t I want to face him? A win over him would help me out. So knowing that wouldn’t happen was definitely disappointing.”

Would Mir have thought about fighting his next opponent, Todd Duffee, if Brock came back or UFC, or if Duffee didn’t talk trash?

“No, not at all. That’s why I actually kind of laugh with some of the intelligence that came from his mouth. He says I’m just fighting for a payday and that’s why I wasn’t picking up a fight for him, but I’m vying for a fight against someone whose ranked. I was like, “Are you thinking about the words that came out of your mouth? If I’m only fighting for the payday, would I choose to fight somebody whose better than you if I get paid the same?”
