So the big story this summer is apparently the same as the big story last summer – Destination America MAY BE cancellation Impact Wrestling later this year. The controversy started with a report in the Wrestling Observer that said D.A. was planning on cancelling the show, but that notice went out prior to the announcement that Impact was moving nights again.
What most people heard (and what some people reported) was that D.A. was definitely cancelling the show. The reality is, they absolutely may cancel the show, or they may be giving them one more shot to get the numbers up on a new night. If that doesn’t happen, it’s very, very likely the company will be looking for a new home again for the second time in as many years. Being cancelled twice back-to-back is basically the kiss of death; no decent network is going to touch you after that. So while the old “people have been saying we’re going down for a decade” excuse has worked for them in past years, they really are approaching the end of the line if they can’t make something big happen, quickly.
Of course, the usual host (and then some) came out in defense. This time TNA even issued a statement, threatening legal action for defamation against the reports. That may be the most hilarious thing the company has ever said. Everyone from Billy Corgan to Dixie Carter to Bob Ryder denied the reports. As someone with a lot of experience in this exact same situation, time will prove someone either very right, or very wrong. Of course, if TNA does manage to negotiate to stay on the air, they can always act like they were “right” the entire time anyways.
-Oh yeah, and Eric Bischoff is suing them.
–And a stable is gone, and somebody may no longer be with the company.
-In some NOT TERRIBLE news for TNA, they announced the dates and locations for the 2016 UK tour.
Misc. Wrestling News
Moose has signed a new contract with Ring of Honor, which will keep him (more or less) exclusive to the company. The former NFL star has been one of the fastest-improving stars in recent memory, and that, along with his impressive size, physique and natural athletic ability have made him a huge commodity among competing promotions. Pretty much everyone wanted him, to varying levels of seriousness, but it was ROH who managed to lock him down. It’ll be great to watch him continue to develop, as they’ve done a great job both fast-tracking him into the world title picture, but making sure he can keep up with everyone else in the ring. If you’ve never seen the 6’5 super heavyweight hit a standing dropkick, or scale the top rope, you’re in for a treat. All eyes on the Moose.
