New WWE Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett recently spoke with The UK Sun about his return to WWE, and the following are some highlights:
Asked whether Piers Morgan’s public image had influenced the development of his Bad News character, Barrett told The Sun,
“I’m a huge Piers Morgan fan.
His show was huge over here for a little while, but he’s not doing it any more.
I think a lot of my character development came along before he was doing his shows so I suspect he took a lot of stuff from me, rather than the other way round.
He’s copying Bad News Barrett,” Barrett joked.
The Lancashire-born brawler – an ardent Preston North End fan – also told how he bonded with British wrestling legend Robbie Brookside in the early stages of a career over Scouser Robbie’s family links to the Lilywhites.
“Robbie’s dad was a goalkeeper for North End,” Barrett explained.
“I was actually speaking to Robbie about this a couple of weeks ago when I was down at the Performance Center [in Florida] shaking off some ring rust.
“He said his dad didn’t play many games, I think he was mainly a reserve there. Then I think he left and joined the army.”
