Details on Recent WWE Release
We reported last week that Kendra Smith, the former WWE developmental Diva who wrestled as “Kendall Skye”, was released by the company. In an update to that story, she actually asked for her release and was granted it by WWE.
Kendra moved to Tampa in early 2013 to start learning the wrestling craft, and is primarily an actress and stunt double from Los Angeles. It’s said her promos were top notch, and with a background in stunt acting and kickboxing, there were a few ideas being talked about for a main roster debut. One of these ideas was to use her as a bodyguard for Divas Champion AJ Lee during her first run with the title – a role that was eventually given to Tamina Snuka instead – and to utilize her as the wrestling version of UFC star Ronda Rousey.
One of the things she needed a lot of work on was her wrestling, as she had no experience coming in, but had a natural athletic quality and the rest would likely come with time. During more than one period of minor injury, she was used as a ring announcer, and did many of the live events. The belief is that while she was making progress in wrestling, the injuries had set her back, and she made the decision after more than a year and a half to go back to California and focus on her career.
