Jack Swagger – One Step Down
Zeb Colter is a great talker, no doubt about it. But if he knows how to be a good “manager”, he needs to start showing it quickly.
I’ve been very positive toward the pairing of Swagger and Colter. Of course, I’m a big Swagger supporter so it should come as no surprise I was optimistic about its potential. However, last night’s Raw segment between Del Rio, Swagger and Colter during Miz TV displayed one major flaw with the whole gimmick:
Swagger doesn’t look like the star; Colter does.
Paul Heyman works for Brock and Punk because THEY are the ones getting over due to his incredible mic work. He gets over too, but not near as much as they do. That’s the point of a manager. AJ and Big E. compliment Dolph as well; it works. Colter did not help Swagger look strong at all last night. Major problem.
This is fixable – I’m not saying they’re doomed. WWE just has to find the happy medium to allow Colter to shine through talking while still putting over Swagger at the same time.
The message Colter is trying to get across comes off as his message, not Swagger’s. It doesn’t even feel like a collective opinion they both share. Swagger just looks like the muscle doing the physical bidding of Colter.
I’m still high on Swagger, I’m still high on Colter, but it’s going to take some corrections before I remain high on the two of them together.
