Courant.com posted a report late last week providing several updates on The WWE Network, noting that WWE wants to join Connecticut's Next Five program, and in turn create 200 jobs in the process. More interestingly, however, are comments made by WWE CFO George Barrios, in which he basically states that the WWE Network structure is still being worked out. The following is a report highlight:
Details about the WWE network are still being worked out, Barrios said. It could be a fully distributed network with advertising and subscription revenue from cable providers, a pay channel, or a network that delivers content directly to viewers' TV sets or computers, he said.
WWE currently shows its programming on several cable networks, including USA and SyFy. "We'd envision continuing to partner with those networks. … We think it just adds to the opportunity," Barrios said.
In preparing for the network, and in expanding generally, WWE has leased additional space in Stamford, and has built out some of its existing space, where it owns a headquarters building and studios, Barrios said. Those efforts started in late 2011.
