Before the show started, Don West was in the ring pitching everything from glow sticks to ODB posters. He was throwing out a lot of free shit too.
Mr Pectacular Jesse Godderz vs Johnny Spade – This was a really basic match. I’m pretty sure they’re both OVW guys. Pectacular spent a lot of time working the crowd and Spade won with a rollup.
Mr Anderson vs Christopher Daniels w/Kazarian – The crowd was really hot for Anderson here. He cut a promo about assholes being better than douchebags. Daniels was a douchebag. Daniels won with the Angel’s Wings after Kazarian interfered.
Tara vs Gail Kim for the TNA Knockouts title – Tara was obviously hurting. She kept adjusting her knee brace and tape. Of course, they spent a good chunk of the match working the knee. Kim won. It was a short match.
Rob Terry vs Eric Young – They did a posedown before it started. Eric seemed to be insisting that Terry didn’t know how to pose, so he kept showing him. Earl Hebner got in on the act and he and Eric posed together. This match sucked. Terry did a lot of power moves. Eric won with a crucifix rollup. This match sucked.
They did an intermission. They had Earl and Brian Hebner signing shirts at the merch table. Even though they were the lowest priced shirts in the building, there wasn’t even a line. Don West told everyone to buy them because Bret Hart was suing him. 2 years ago when they were here, there were tons of you screwed Bret chants. This time there were none.
Kazarian w/Christopher Daniels vs AJ Styles ended almost as soon as it began. AJ and Kazarian worked for a minute before Daniels got in the ring and they both stomped AJ in the corner. Anderson ran out for the save. He cut a promo and it turned into a tag. The heels refused to get back in the ring and Brian Hebner said if they didn’t, he’d suspend them.
Kazarian/Daniels vs Styles/Anderson – This match was surprisingly short. They got the heat on Anderson, AJ finally got the tag and wasn’t in there very long. Finish came when AJ dived on Kazarian outside and Anderson hit the Mic Check on Daniels to get the win. I should add that there were a handful of guys who took bumps outside on this show, and there were no mats around the ring.
Kid Kash vs Alex Shelley – There was a lot of stalling in this match. A lot. It was ok otherwise. Shelley won with the Sliced Bread #2.
Bully Ray vs Kurt Angle vs James Storm vs Bobby Roode for the TNA title – Bully came out first and cut a promo on a 5 year old that was awesome. Before the bell rang, Roode said that he was changing it to a non-title match. Bully got on the mic and said he came to win a title. Somehow this got changed to a #1 contenders match, but I don’t know how. It was confusing. The match itself was good, but not great. Bully, Storm and Roode did all the work. Kurt laid outside and sold the entire match. Storm won and everyone around me thought they’d just seen a title change until they announced him as the #1 contender.
Final thoughts: This wasn’t nearly as good from a wrestling standpoint, as the show they did two years ago. The one thing TNA did perfectly was crowd interaction. They kept offering people different ways to get backstage (buy a pass for $50, buy a belt and take your whole family, etc) and they had a handful of autograph sessions and things.
