The show opened with The Miz cutting a promo on his new years resolution of becoming WWE Champion and that it would happen tonight. R-Truth's music hits to a huge reaction and Miz stared up the ramp but Truth came from the crowd on the side and attacked him. Truth began to cut a promo when David Otunga came out to speak on behalf of Mr. Laurinitas and told Truth he couldn't be here as he wasn't scheduled. Truth left to heavy boos.
The Bella twins were introduced as the special ring announcer and time keeper for the first bout. They first introduced guest referee Santino Marella.
Divas Title
Beth Phoenix def. Eve Torres with the glam slam
After the match Otunga came out and told Santino he needed to go to referee school. He then sucker punched Santino and left to much heat. Santino stood up cocked the cobra then bolted up the ramp after Otunga had left.
Alex Riley and Mason Ryan def. Michael McGuillicutty and Antonio Ceasaro when Mason Ryan hit his finisher on Michael McGuillicutty
Ceasaro cut a short heel promo on the way to the ring about clapping our filthy hands for him. It worked as the crowd who mostly didn't know who he was started booing. He looked very good in the ring.
U.S. Title
Zack Ryder defeated Jack Swagger with the rough ryder
The lights went out and Y2J appeared on the ramp with his back to the crowd complete with flashing jacket. His music hit and he made his way to the ring. He played the crowd for a few minutes then grabbed a mic. Right has he was about to speak Otunga cut him off saying he had to take the jacket off or risk people getting seizures and seeking legal action. Jericho stared silently as the crowd yelled to keep it on. He then took the jacket off to a ton of heat. Y2J then approached Otunga and hit him in the head with a mic shot before locking on the walls of jericho to a great pop. After he was done he played to the crowd more and even took a fans camera and took pictures from the ring of the crowd then gave it back. He teased leaving a few times then left to a huge pop. This led to intermission.
Tag Team Titles
Air Boom def Primo and Epico after the trouble in paradise and air bourne.
They teased a false finish where Primo and Epico won the titles but another ref came down to point out Kofi's foot was on the ropes.
John Cena def Kane by DQ when Kane hit Cena with a chair. Afterwards Kane attempted to attack Cena and got an AA for his trouble.
WWE Title
C.M. Punk def The Miz when Punk hit the G.T.S. Afterwards R-truth attacked The Miz to a huge pop. Punk and Truth then had a stare down, Truth extended his hand a Punk shook it. truth left and Punk celebrated to end the show.
The show was good and the crowd was into everything as it had been something like four years since WWE last came to Tyler. I did find it pod that they built all this heat on Otunga to have Jericho take him out. I thought he was a heel but he came off very much a face tonight.
