Kurt Angle will face Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Title in Toko on April 5, 2009. Tanahasi won the title from Kenji Muto, and successfully defended it again Shinsuke Nakamura in Feb 15. Angle is a former IWGP 3rd Edition Champion, a version of the title he won from Brock Lesnar on June 29, 2007, and eventually lost to Shinsuke Nakamura on Feb 17, 2008 in a unification match. Angle faced Tanahashi before in 6 Man Tag matches which Angle won, but this will be their first singles match. Whoever wins the match will face the winner of the New Japan Cup On May 3, 2009
