“The Wrestler” won Best Picture at Saturday’s Spirit Awards in Santa Moncia, CA. Maryse Alberti picked up the award for Best Cinematography. The Spirit Awards are presented by Film Independent, honoring films not exceeding $20 million budgets.
The 81st Academy Awards ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC tonight at 8:00 PM ET. “The Wrestler” has two nominations: Mickey Rourke for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Marisa Tomei is among the finalists for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

At one point, one of the Assassins slapped Gunkel in the face, but Gunkel kept his composure, leaving the Assassins claiming he was a coward. Gunkel, however, stated to Capral as the Assassins left the area that as a commentator, he felt he should be partly responsible for maintaining order rather than contributing to chaos.
