Tonight’s edition of MMA Sunday, hosted by the Canvas Chronicle’s Ric Gillespie and Casey Trowbridge of MMA Blitz, will feature an open discussion of events in the world of mixed martial arts, the latest news, and previews of things to come, beginning at 9:00 PM ET. World Wrestling Entertainment’s SmackDown crew will be in Santiago, CL, at Movistar Arena, tonight. Advertised: Triple H, the Undertaker, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, the Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov, Umaga, Shelton Benjamin, the Great Khali, MVP, R-Truth, Carlito, Primo Colon, Brian Kendrick, Ezekiel, Michelle McCool, Natalya, and the Bella Twins. Bell time is 7:00 PM.

WWE’s RAW/ECW crew will be in Asheville, NC, at the Asheville Civic Center today. Advertised: John Cena, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, CM Punk, Christian, Kane, Melina, Beth Phoenix, Kofi Kingston, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Jr., and Finlay. Bell time is 5:00 PM. In a brief Asheville newspaper article on Friday plugging this event, Cena was referred to as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Riot Wrestling Entertainment will present “Deadlocked” at Element Nightlife in Columbia, SC, tonight. The doors will open at 6:30 PM, with matches getting underway at 7:15 PM. Tickets are $10, $7 with student I.D. This will be an all-ages event. Advertised: Jon Malus takes on Cali Casanova for the RWE Warzone Heavyweight Championship. Hexxon goes one-on-one against Matt Crosby. Nick Kismet battles Matt Graves. Brandon Paradise squares off against J.C. Walker.

Rampage Pro Wrestling will be at Johnny G’s Fun Center in Warner Robins, GA, today. Bell time is 4:00 PM.

“The Wrestler” won Best Picture at Saturday’s Spirit Awards in Santa Moncia, CA. Maryse Alberti picked up the award for Best Cinematography. The Spirit Awards are presented by Film Independent, honoring films not exceeding $20 million budgets.

The 81st Academy Awards ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC tonight at 8:00 PM ET. “The Wrestler” has two nominations: Mickey Rourke for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Marisa Tomei is among the finalists for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

FEBRUARY 22, 1963 (FRIDAY) – MARIETTA, GA – LARRY BELL AUDITORIUM (Elmo Chappell – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Bill Zabo versus Matt Jewell > Women’s World Title Match: the Fabulous Moolah* defeated Bette Boucher at 31:00 > The Steve Boys defeated Lenny Montana & Prince Omar / Notes: Bill Zabo and Matt Jewell were scheduled to wrestle each other, but no results were reported after the card. The Fabulous Moolah had been billed as Women’s World Champion since she defeated Judy Grable on September 18, 1956, in Baltimore, MD. However, she was not considered the undisputed champion until June Byers retired with her title, won in Atlanta on August 20, 1954, in a win over Mildred Burke, until Byers retired in 1964.

Ray Gunkel joined Capral as a co-host on this episode, and was confronted by the Assassins. At one point, one of the Assassins slapped Gunkel in the face, but Gunkel kept his composure, leaving the Assassins claiming he was a coward. Gunkel, however, stated to Capral as the Assassins left the area that as a commentator, he felt he should be partly responsible for maintaining order rather than contributing to chaos. Jack Crawford managed Dale Lewis.
