Ring Of Honor issued the following press release today:
At “Final Battle 2009”, Jay and Mark Briscoe defeated Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards to claim the ROH World Tag Titles for the sixth time, and earned some redemption for the year of frustration stemming from Mark Briscoe’s Wolves-inflicted knee injury back at “Final Battle 2008”. Within the days following December 19th, the American Wolves began howling for their title rematch as Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero also began their pursuit of the belts. Ring of Honor officials made a match for WrestleReunion 4, and at “SoCal Showdown”, the Wolves and Kings of Wrestling bested The Briscoes and Young Bucks in a wild 8-Man Tag Match when Eddie Edwards submitted Nick Jackson.
Then as announced at http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/Article.aspx?id=3245, ROH officials signed a huge 6-Man War for the return to Michigan with The Briscoes and ROH World Champion Tyler Black against Chris Hero and The Wolves. But that wasn’t enough for the Wolves as Davey Richards sent the following e-mail to ROH:
“We are owed the rematch. We dominated the tag team division in ROH for over eight months and decimated every team put in our path. We are happy that the 6-man tag got signed because we like any opportunity to make the chicken farmers suffer; but it’s not the title rematch Eddie and I deserve. Do the right thing, or the Wolves will put the Briscoes on the shelf one more time.
When asked for reaction, Jay Briscoe was steadfast. “They want that rematch?” said Briscoe. “Man, how many times can I say that the Briscoes’ don’t back down from no challenge? We don’t run, we don’t hide, we standin’ right here as the 6-time World champs for a reason! Me and Mark’ll get down to the get-down in Detroit just like we did in New York City, and you can get your rematch anytime, anywhere! Bring yer ass, son, and we’ll put ya down like some damn rabid dogs.
ROH officials acted quickly after this burst of words from both sides, and it is now official. Two of the greatest tag teams in Ring of Honor history will lock up one more time over the World Championship. The American Wolves will get their title rematch with the Briscoes, and it will take place on March 26th when ROH debuts in Phoenix, AZ on the biggest wrestling weekend of the year! The Briscoes vs. The American Wolves, ROH World Tag Titles on the line!!! Can Edwards and Richards reclaim the prize they took to new heights in 2009? Or will the six-time titleholders establish their foothold on top one more time? And what of the Kings of Wrestling?
