AEW Dynamite Results (8/28/24): Bryan Danielson Addresses His Future

AEW will deliver a star-studded show with the August 28 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Wednesday’s show comes just days after AEW All In, where Bryan Danielson won the AEW World Championship. Danielson will address his wrestling future following his title win. Plus, Jamie Hayter will make her in-ring return after her surprise appearance at AEW All In, and Ricochet will make his Dynamite debut.

AEW Dynamite Results

The broadcast team recaps Bryan Danielson’s win at AEW All In. New entrance music plays, and Jon Moxley comes out.

Jon Moxley Returns

Moxey slowly comes to the ring, and he seemingly has a lot on his mind. Tony Schiavone asks Jon Moxley how he is doing, and he says he’s been thinking about things that need to get done. Moxley says he wants to have a conversation with someone who is nothing like him yet everything like him. He calls out Darby Allin and says it’s time they had a talk. Moxley says that this is not “your” company anymore to Schiavone.

Backstage, HOOK and The Conglomeration discuss their upcoming matches tonight. Willow Nightingale joins the interview and names a Chicago Street Fight as her stipulation for her match against Kris Statlander at AEW All Out.

Adam Page Competes

“Hangman” Adam Page vs. Tomohiro Ishii

Page takes the fight to Ishii, and they trade blows. They keep trading shots, and neither man gives an inch. They exchange shoulder tackles, and they’re evenly matched. They again trade blows. Page gains the upper hand. Ishii slams Page. “Hangman” chops Ishii in the corner. Ishii trucks over Page. “Hangman” shrugs off some chops. Page drops Ishii with a lariat. He plants Ishii with a DDT on the apron.

Page hits another lariat. He traps Ishii in a Figure-Four Leg-Lock, but Ishii reaches the ropes. He hits a clothesline in the corner, but Ishii powers through and drops Page with a stiff shot. Ishii gets a two-count with a suplex. Ishii takes Page down with a superplex. Page tries to rally, but Ishii dumps him with a German suplex. Both men are down after they trade elbows.

Page takes control and locks in a crossface. Ishii reaches the ropes and rocks Page with a kick. They clothesline each other. Page flips out of a suplex. He suplexes Ishii. Ishii gets a two-count with a lariat.

Page fires up and hits a lariat. They keep battling, but Page scores the win with the Buckshot Lariat.

Winner: “Hangman” Adam Page

Swerve Strickland Confronts Adam Page

Swerve Strickland interrupts Page’s celebration and gets in his face. Strickland makes it clear that he’s mad at Page for getting in his match at AEW All In. He says he feels sorry for Page, as he has become a petulant child, and that’s driving him away from success. Strickland says he will always be referred to as a world champion, and this will always be Swerve’s House. He says that Page failed. Page tells Strickland that he’s not a champion. He calls him a “piece of shit”. He brings up Strickland breaking into his home, and he says Swerve never beat him on his own.

Page says Strickland is not as good as him. He says he wants to face Strickland one-on-one, and Swerve suggests they “lock us in” at AEW All Out. He challenges Page to a Steel Cage match at AEW All Out. Strickland recalls seeing Page escort his wife to the hospital when he was about to become a father for the second time. He says that’s the man that Page was meant to be. Strickland says he needs to focus on the world title, and he says it will happen again. He laughs at Page for being so focused on him. Swerve says Page’s career is going up in flames. He wonders what kind of man Page will be in the Steel Cage match. Page walks away.

Jamie Hayter Returns To The Ring

Jamie Hayter vs. Harley Cameron (with Saraya)

Hayter comes to the ring for her first match since May 2023. Cameron briefly takes control, but Hayter overpowers her. Hayter slams Cameron and floors her with a kick, sending her to the outside. Saraya distracts Hayter. Hayter keeps rolling and hits the Hayterade for the win.

Winner: Jamie Hayter

Saraya hides behind Cameron and shoves her into Hayter. She then runs away, and Hayter celebrates.

Chris Jericho, Big Bill, Bryan Keith, and Roderick Strong discuss the fallout of AEW All In and look forward to their match tonight. Jericho comments on his loss to HOOK and says HOOK finally took his advice. He takes credit for HOOK’s win and says he’s proud of him. Jericho says they’re going to make their opponents “pay the price” tonight.

MJF Discusses His Loss

MJF comes to the ring. He says he’s in a tremendous amount of pain. MJF brings up his loss at AEW All In and says he lost his ring, his championship, and he has two herniated discs in his spine. He says none of the fans had his back. MJF says he denounces his American citizenship, and he will no longer be associated with this “garbage country”. He says the only place that matters it the most magical place in the world, Long Island.

He denounces the fans for not showing him any respect. MJF says AEW is a circus without him. He says he had Will Ospreay beat, and this isn’t over. MJF says that Ospreay will come close to winning the world title one day, but he’s going to cut him out at the knees. MJF calls Daniel Garcia a bum and threatens to end his life. Garcia attacks MJF from behind and chokes him out.

Security guards come out, and Garcia fights them. MJF attacks Garcia from behind. Garcia gains the upper hand. Security comes out and separates them. Garcia says he pawned MJF’s Dynamite Diamond Ring. He brings up MJF taking him out and says he is obsessed with ruining MJF’s life. Garcia reveals that he talked to Tony Khan, and he will face MJF at AEW All Out. MJF accepts the challenge.

All-Star Eight-Man Tag Match

HOOK & The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly & Mark Briscoe) vs. Chris Jericho, HOOK, Big Bill & Roderick Strong

HOOK takes control early on. He and his teammates isolate Keith. O’Reilly kicks Keith. Bill tags in and overpowers Briscoe. Briscoe takes the fight to him, but Bill gains the upper hand. The two teams square off and brawl around the ring. Jericho takes control, but Cassidy fights him off. Cassidy tags Briscoe, who fires up with a flurry of offense. String drops Briscoe with a backbreaker. Keith drills Briscoe with some stiff shots. O’Reilly rallies and rocks Strong with some stiff strikes.

Big Bill tags in and crushes O’Reilly with an elbow drop. He floors Cassidy with a spinning slam. Bill continues to control the action. O’Reilly sends Bill over the ropes. HOOK tags in and clears house with a flurry of offense. He dumps Bill with a suplex. Keith slams Cassidy and nails O’Reilly with a knee strike. Jericho fakes going for a dive and waves at the crowd. HOOK suplexes him. Strong hits HOOK with a lung-blower. Cassidy dives onto Keith at ringside. Briscoe dives onto Bill. Back in the ring, HOOk goes for the Redrum. Strong taps out after he gets his foot on the ropes, but the referee doesn’t see it.

Winners: HOOK & The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly & Mark Briscoe)

The two teams brawl after the bell. Undisputed Kingdom gangs up on HOOK. Security comes out to break up the brawl. Strong poses with the FTW Championship.

TBS Champion Mercedes Moné holds a party to celebrate her win at AEW All In. Private Party joins the party, and they bring up her match at NJPW Capital Collision. Isiah Kassidy hits on Mercedes. Kazuchika Okada interrupts. Mercedes asks him how to say “Bye bitch” in Japanese. He whispers in her ear, and she says, “Sayonara, bitches.”

Mariah May Celebrates

Mariah May comes out and says her AEW Women’s World Championship celebration has been postponed. She insults the city of Champaign and takes shots at the crowd, saying they need some “Glamour.” May says she’s going to take her robe off to show everyone what she means. She reveals her outfit and the AEW Women’s World Championship. May says “that’s enough”, covers up and walks away.

In a backstage promo from AEW All In, the Young Bucks interrupt the Grizzled Young Veterans. The Grizzled Young Veterans say they sent a message to the tag team division, they’re here to stay, and they’re coming for the titles. They say they’ll see the Young Bucks soon.

Backstage, Grizzled Young Veterans look forward to facing The Outrunners on AEW Rampage and warn any and all opponents to grit their teeth.

Ricochet Makes His AEW Dynamite Debut

Ricochet vs. Kyle Fletcher

Ricochet and Fletcher feel each other out. They’re evenly matched early on. Ricochet gains the upper hand and sends Fletcher to the outside. Fletcher catches Ricochet with a kick and dives onto him at ringside. He drills Ricochet with another kick. Ricochet jumps off the barricade and onto Fletcher. Fletcher takes control and grounds Ricochet. Ricochet tries to rally, but Fletcher maintains the advantage.

Ricochet fires up with a springboard clothesline. He hits a springboard back elbow. Ricochet dumps Fletcher with a suplex and hits a running Shooting Star Press. He keeps rolling. Fletcher counters a splash and drills Ricochet with a kick. He gets a two-count with a Brainbuster. Ricochet plants Fletcher with a Death Valley Driver. He hits Vertigo (Lifting Reverse DDT) for the win.

Winner: Ricochet

Will Ospreay comes out while Ricochet is celebrating. He’s about to say something, but PAC attacks him. PAC tells him not to forget about him. He welcomes Ricochet to AEW and tells him to go to the back of the line. He says Ospreay belongs tp him. Ricochet comes up the ramp, and PAC leaves.

Jon Moxley is asked about what he meant earlier. He says you shall not cast pearls before swine. He grabs a security guard, and Marina Shafir attacks the guards. Moxley calls this a lesson in humility.

Bryan Danielson Addresses His Future

AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson comes to the ring and addresses his future. The fans chant “you deserve it.” He says he is finally the AEW World Champion. Danielson discusses his win and says he knew it was the favorite moment of his career. He says his AEW contract expired on August 1, and he would be needing neck surgery. Danielson says his family is ready for him to come home. Danielson says he’s been thinking, and he recalls thanking the people who started AEW.

He says AEW is awesome, and AEW’s existence makes wrestling better. Danielson says he realized it’s probably time for him to go home, but not yet. He says he will not retire as AEW World Champion, and he will fight for the title.

He issues an open challenge for AEW All Out. TNT Champion Jack Perry appears on the screen and says nobody wanted him back in AEW, including Danielson. He says he had to create his own future. He says he’s going to retire Danielson and win the title. Perry attacks Danielson from behind.

He hits Danielson with a running knee and poses with both titles.
