John Cena may be retiring, but he is staying with the WWE beyond his final match.
The wrestler-turned-movie star recently announced his intention to retire from wrestling in 2025. At Money in the Bank this year, he made a shock appearance in front of the Toronto crowd to announced his impending retirement from wrestling.
He is planning a 36-date farewell tour. John Cena looks set to include appearances at the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 41, among other events.
However, once he has his final match in the WWE ring, John Cena is still going to be a part of the WWE family.
John Cena spoke with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay (H/T to Fightful for the transcription), where he discussed his relationship with the WWE.
The 16-time WWE Champion revealed that he has signed an extension to remain with the company. This is even after he retires in 2025.
He called the WWE his “family”, and committed his long-term future to the company going forward.
“I have such a trustworthy relationship with them.” John Cena. “Over two decades. I am a champion of the brand. I love the company. It is my home. They are my family. Even after 2025, I’ve already signed an extension to remain a member of the WWE family for the near, mid, and long-term future. I don’t think there will be a beat of my heart where WWE blood doesn’t come out of it,”
John Cena Will Be On Raw For Netflix Debut
Despite retiring soon, John Cena is determined to be at Raw’s debut on Netflix.
The flagship WWE show will move to Netflix in January. John Cena told Complex that he will be there for the episode, calling it a “history-making day for WWE”.
“I can tell you I’ll be there for the debut,” John Cena said. “I think it’s 1/6, I’m not sure, I think so, don’t quote me on that. But I think it’s a history-making day for WWE. I’m so very proud of WWE, in such a fan of the merger. I love the two companies, WWE and Netflix. It’s an event that I will not miss. I will be there.”
