Joe Hendry‘s remarkable run will continue at WWE NXT No Mercy, as the TNA star has earned a shot at the NXT Championship.
On the August 20 episode of WWE NXT, Joe Hendry faced Pete Dunne and Wes Lee in a Number One Contender’s Match where the winner would earn a shot at NXT Champion Ethan Page.
Before the bell, Dunne dropped Hendry with a cheap shot. Hendry sent Dunne to the outside. The three competitors battled back and forth, and Hendry dove onto his opponents at ringside. Lee spiked Dunne with an acrobatic DDT for a near fall.
Later in the match, Hendry seemingly clinched the win with a slam, but NXT Champion Ethan Page pulled the referee out of the ring. Hendry then slammed Lee onto the commentary table. Page stopped a second referee from counting the pin when Hendry floored Dunne. Dunne capitalized and hit Hendry with the Bitter End, but Trick Williams ran in and hit the Trick Shot. Hendry pinned Dunne for the win.
After the bell, TNA’s Zachary Wentz ran in and attacked Wes Lee.
WWE also confirmed that Hendry will challenge Ethan Page for the title at NXT No Mercy.
