Shawn Michaels On Ethan Page: There’s A Lot Of Untapped Potential There

Shawn Michaels speaks highly of Ethan Page.

Ethan Page left AEW earlier in 2024 and made a surprise appearance on NXT. Just weeks after he signed with WWE, he won the NXT Championship at NXT Heatwave.

Speaking on Good Karma Wrestling, Shawn Michaels was asked about how he assessed Ethan Page’s value before he joined WWE. He recalled how he thought Page had untapped potential. Michaels also noted that they took a chance on Page.

“As soon as I found out that he was available, it was something that I started looking into immediately,” Shawn Michaels said. “You’re talking about a great deal of experience, seasoned, comfortable. [He’s] somebody that knows that they’re doing out there. But also at the same time, I didn’t know everything about him. But you sort of look at him, and you say, ‘I think there’s a lot of untapped potential there.’ You can hear different stories, this, that and the other, you never know what’s true.

“But you just see potential, and you think, ‘Has he ever been given the opportunity? Let’s just find out if he has.’ Again, if he falls short, you fall short, and then you get dropped to the bottom of the card. But he’s a guy that we sort of took on, he took a chance with us, and right now, I think you see that it’s been pretty successful.”

Shawn Michaels: Ethan Page And NXT Is A Great Combination

Shawn Michaels continued by highlighting Ethan Page’s experience and his passion. He also noted that Page now felt like he had a place that believed in him.

“He’s a guy that certainly brought experience to the table that we don’t have a lot of here in NXT, but also a guy who’s so excited and passionate about somebody believing in him,” he said. “When you put those two together, it’s a great combination because he’s a guy who feels like he’s got a place that appreciates him and is investing in him, and then we’ve also got the experience level that we need here in NXT.”
