CM Punk addresses his reputation as a cancer following his controversial run in AEW.
For years, CM Punk has been a controversial figure in the wrestling world, even before he walked out of WWE in 2014. His time in All Elite Wrestling was derailed by backstage issues, including his rant at the AEW All Out 2022 that led to a backstage altercation with The Elite. Punk was also involved in a backstage incident with Jack Perry at AEW All In 2023, and it led to his termination. He then returned to WWE at WWE Survivor Series 2023.
CM Punk spoke on The Masked Man Show at Fanatics Fest NYC. In one highlight, co-host Kazeem Famuyide noted that plenty of people expected similar issues that Punk had in AEW to happen in WWE. (H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)
“That’s all bullsh*t. None of that stuff is reality,” CM Punk said. “‘Oh, he’s a cancer.’ Listen, not everybody gets nice me. I treat you accordingly. If you’re a piece of sh*t, and you act that way to me, I will treat you that way. If you’re nice, you’re smiling, you want to have a good time, let’s have a good time. I’m all hugs.
“It’s not like I’m two different people, there are just certain people, the ones that spread those lies and say those things about me, because they can’t control me and they can’t control the things I do and say. They absolutely hate that, so they try to control the way other people feel or see me. It’s bullshit. You’re going to have to make your own judgment and draw your own conclusion.”
