AEW Dynamite Results (8/14/24): Mercedes Moné Defends Against Hikaru Shida

AEW Dynamite Results – August 14, 2024

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with Mercedes Moné defending the TBS Championship against Hikaru Shida.

Mercedes Moné (w/ Kamille) defeated Hikaru Shida to retain the AEW TBS Championship

  • Following interference from Kamille, Mercedes Moné hits Hikaru Shida with the Moné Maker to score the pinfall victory.

Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett are backstage. Lethal and Jarrett start running down Hangman Page who rushes in and attacks both men. Page drags Lethal to the ring for the next match.

Hangman Page defeated Jay Lethal

  • Hangman Page hits Jay Lethal with the Buckshot Lariat to score the pinfall victory.

They air highlights from the recent RevPro event where MJF defended the AEW American Championship against Michael Oku. Will Ospreay saved Oku and his wife following the match from Friedman. This is followed up by a video package for the match between Ospreay and MJF at All In.

PAC is backstage and wants to remind everyone who the number one contender for the AEW American Championship is. He says Ospreay went to Tony Khan and took his spot at All In. PAC says he’s cashing in his shot at the championship at AEW All Out in Chicago in the same place he defeated Kenny Omega.

A video package plays, hyping the AEW TNT Championship match between Darby Allin and Jack Perry at All In.

The stakes for the TNT Championship match at All In have been raised on AEW Dynamite

Darby Allin attempted to make his way to the ring but was attacked by Jack Perry and dragged backstage. Perry and Allin brawl and ends when Perry traps Allin under a garage door. Perry tries to run a production case into Allin’s head but is stopped by multiple security members. Jack says he wants to beat Darby at his own game and All In and challenges him to a coffin match.

A film by Mariah May debuts, which was mainly a promo hyping her match against Toni Storm at All In. You can check that out in the embedded video below.

Mina Shirakawa is backstage. Mina says she hasn’t spoken to anyone since Forbidden Door and she is heartbroken by what has happened. Shirakawa can’t believe Toni and Mariah are the same people. Mina says she hopes no one gets seriously hurt at AEW All In.

Orange Cassidy defeated Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly

  • Kyle O’Reilly tries to lock the cross armbreaker on Roderick Strong, but Orange Cassidy rolls him up with a crucifix pin to score the pinfall victory.

Kazuchika Okada defends the AEW Continental Championship against Claudio Castagnoli next week on Dynamite

Kazuchika Okada and Claudio Castagnoli are backstage. Castagnoli says the Continental Championship means a lot to him because he believes it was his tournament to win. Castagnoli is excited to face Okada next week during the first Dynamite in Europe. Okada says he’s the champion, not him. Okada says he’s the greatest tournament wrestler of all time and Claudio will respect him when he beats him next week.

Kazuchika says good luck, bitch, and walks away. Castagnoli says he hopes he doesn’t get this version of Okada next week. Castagnoli says he wants The Rainmaker. Claudio says he’s gonna bring his best next week and Okada better be ready because in Cardiff Okada is gonna have 99 problems and this bitch is one.

The Patriarchy are backstage. Christian Cage claims he called the match on AEW Collision right down the middle and neither team could answer the count of ten. Cage promises to hold every single title in AEW and he wants to hold them all at the same time. Cage yells at Renee Paquette and sends her away.

Another match set for AEW All In

Tony Schiavone brings HOOK to the ring for an interview. HOOK says he can’t see out his one eye but he can see just fine with the other one and he says he wants his title back. HOOK says he wants to fight Chris Jericho right now.

Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith come out on the stage. Jericho says HOOK is a stupid son of a bitch. Chris asks HOOK if he wants to fight and says he’s not getting one. Jericho says it’s not worth his time to fight HOOK tonight, but Wembley Stadium is worth his time and he’ll give him a title shot at All In.

Chris Jericho says this will be HOOK’s final chance for the FTW Championship at All In. Jericho says HOOK also has to face Big Bill next week on Dynamite. Bill says he’s gonna beat HOOK down and shove him up Taz’s ass. HOOK accepts and says he’s looking forward to it. HOOK says he’s gonna dumb Big Bill on his head and he’s gonna tear Jericho limb from limb, he promises after All In Jericho will never ever be the same again.

The Young Bucks defeated The Acclaimed (w/ Billy Gunn) to retain the AEW World Tag Team Titles

  • FTR comes out to try and prevent Matthew Jackson from hitting Max Caster with the title. Matthew spits in Dax’s face and Harwood attacks Jackson in front of the referee leading to a disqualification.

Christopher Daniels is backstage with Renee Paquette. Daniels says FTR will face The Acclaimed at Collision on Saturday and the winner will go on to face The Young Bucks for the titles at All In.

It’s time… for the main event!

Bryan Danielson is in the front row to watch the main event between Swerve Strickland and Wheeler Yuta.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana) defeated Wheeler Yuta

  • Swerve Strickland hits Wheeler Yuta with three House Calls and grounds and pounds Yuta until the referee stops the match.

Bryan Danielson hits the ring and Strickland rushes out. Strickland says that was just an example of what he’s going to do to Danielson at All In. Strickland says he hopes his daughter is at ringside in London to watch his last match and he’ll force him to retire when he cripples him.

Danielson checks on Yuta and Swerve runs back out and hits Danielson with the House Call. Strickland mockingly does the yes chant as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
